Allier self-catering cottages are found in a region with a number of freshwater lakes. These are ideal for swimming and sunbathing in the summer months, and are often well equipped with facilities and even beaches. If you’re feeling adventurous then the Forest of Troncais can be found a short way from holiday villas in Allier – this ancient woodland is almost completely unspoiled and covers as much as 20,000 hectares. The forest is steeped in legend and folklore and is also home to a number of historical sites like the Saint Mayeul chapel of the Bouteille priory, which dates back 1,000 years. For a day of family fun, Le Pal, a popular amusement park with rides and animal attractions, is about an hour away from holiday rentals in Allier.
