About this property

Villa Lucciola With Outdoor Heated Private Pool And Jacuzzi

On a wooded hillside overlooking the valley of the Bormida river, Villa Lucciola commands impressive views of the valley and beyond. The house is reached by a steep private lane from the main road.
The land is contoured by impressive old, stone-walled terraces, once farmed, but as the people left the land, nature has returned with thick forest.

The stone villa has been carefully restored, extended and modernised to provide over 450 sq. m. of spacious luxury living. It can comfortably accommodate 8 people with 4 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 5 wc.

Park land and gardens surround the house with magnificent flowering bushes and glades of wildflower.
The location, in Piemonte but close to Liguria, is very central and convenient with the vineyards of Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba and Asti; the beaches of the Italian Riviera and the ski slopes and mountains of Cuneo all within 60 km or 60 minute drive from the house.

The villa covers 450 sq. m. over 3 floors.

There are 2 lounges, both very different in character, setting and furniture. The main lounge is on the middle floor. This is the heart of the house and is a modern, bright, open-plan space with large floor to ceiling French-windows overlooking the valley and garden below. There is ample seating to suit every mood whether to watch satellite TV or a movie, listen to music, or just sit by the window and soak in the views. There is a wood burning stove for the colder months but the room also has underfloor heating.
The second lounge is on the top floor below the exposed chestnut, roof beams. The parquet floor and Queen Ann, antique furniture promotes a more quiet space, perfect for reading, have a quiet chat or collect private thoughts.

There are 4 spacious double bedrooms. All the bedroom windows are fitted with in-built insect screens.
The master bedroom is on the top floor. The room has tall ceilings with exposed chestnut beams. French windows overlook the side garden and onwards to the pool. There is a king size double bed with memory foam mattress and walk-in wardrobe. The spacious master bathroom is adjacent. It has a free standing designer bath and walk-in shower, washbasin and wc.
The executive bedroom is on the middle floor with French windows overlooking the side garden. There are two extra wide single beds. An antique wardrobe, rocking chair and Nepalese carpet add a unique touch. The private bathroom has a walk-in shower, wc and wash basin.
There are 2 double bedrooms, each with twin beds, on the ground floor. They share a walk-in shower room with wc and washbasin.
The modern fitted kitchen has a gas stove, fridge freezer, dishwasher, kettle, coffee machine (dolce gusto), filter coffee, toaster, bread maker.
The dining area is adjacent and comfortably seats 8. The area is open on 2 sides with floor to ceiling French windows offering magnificent views.
A laundry room with 2 washing machines, dryer and fridge freezer is off the main porch. Cleaning equipment, recycling bins and general waste bin are situated here. A changing room with wc is next to the laundry room.

The garden covers 2 acres across 5 terraces. It is mostly given to park land. Trees include oak, walnut and black locust (false acacia). Set aside areas of wildflower attract butterflies and bees. The local acacia honey is a speciality.
The gardens have been recently landscaped and some of the bushes, flowers and succulents are not fully established. Most special is a terrace of wild orchids. Best seen in late spring, the orchids are protected by law and must not be touched. This season is also the best for the amazing displays of pulsating light from the fireflies. The villa is named after these wonders of nature.

The outdoor kitchen is equipped with a 6 pit Gas BBQ.
The dining area seats 8. The whole area is covered by a sail sun shade.
The outdoor pool measures 8x4 m and is 1.4 m deep. The pool is heated and guests are requested to help to maintain warm temperatures by ensuring they cover both the pool and spa bath at night. This also reduces the necessary cleaning of leaves and bugs.
The pool is open from May to October. Sun loungers complete the scene, arranged on the wooden decking.
Young oak trees provide some refreshing natural shade but there are sun umbrellas and sail shade. Pool towels are provided.
The jacuzzi can easily accommodate 4 people. Water temperature and jet power is adjustable. We provide Hamman towels to add to the ambiance. It is a wonderful area to bathe and relax yet still have a view across the valley. The Jacuzzi is open all year. Side covers with transparent windows are fitted during the colder months.

Family holiday week in Saliceto
We had a fantastic week in Villa Lucciola just outside Saliceto. The villa is located just outside the town in a peaceful location with fabulous views over the valley. The villa is beautifully decorated and as described and has a real personal touch. The outside spaces are lovely and excellently maintained. The pool and jacuzzi the real highlight for the kids! Monique made every effort to make our stay as memorable as possible. Many thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful villa.

Beautiful house nestled in the Piemonte hills
We had a fabulous weekend at Villa Lucciola for the white truffle festival - the house is warm, welcoming, stylish and fabulously relaxing. Monique and Matthew were wonderful hosts and the Piemonte region is a beautiful part of Italy we had never visited before. We began our stay with a delicious lunch at Ristorante Le Torri in Castiglione Falletto, tasted some wonderful Barolos at Paolo Scavino and Conterno Fantino at Monforte d'Alba. The next day we ventured to the coast and enjoyed a great fish and seafood lunch whilst gazing out to sea, at Sirio restaurant at Spotorno, where the food, wine and conversation flowed! Wandered round the grounds of the house, enjoyed the stunning views out to the hills and forests from both the jacuzzi and from the very comfortable sofas at the top of the house where I retreated the read my book. Loved the pristine white bathroom and walk-in shower next to our room on the 2nd floor. Enjoyed a memorable white truffle dinner by top local chef Massimiliano di Torterolo of La Locanda dell' Angelo at Millesimo, and every one of Massimiliano's truffle creations, plus the amazing Langhe, Nebbiolo and Barolo wines accompanying them, was truly amazing... All in all a fantastic weekend at a splendid location, very highly recommended.

Great villa, great time
We had a great time in Villa Lucciola. Monique was very welcoming and both Noemi and Antonia were brilliant helping us (from advise on where to eat, help with finding stuff in the villa and even collecting a package for us from Savona!). Villa is lovely; pool and Jacuzzi great, rooms great, nice layout, etc. Beautiful views over the valley (we watched an amazing thunderstorm come over one evening). Not particularly designed for small kids (we had 5yo/3yo/1yo) but we did a couple of things to make it more child friendly (eg - block off the stairs with a big bench)...not a issue, just make sure you do a quick health and safety check to think about the things little ones might do that you can prevent. Hope to return again some day.

Why they chose this property

Villa Lucciola was a ruin when we brought it. But the location was perfect for us. Four international airports within easy reach. Genoa and Turin only 60 and 90 minutes away by car.
We have restored and improved the property to provide over 450 sq.m. of bright, comfortable, modern living yet still retaining many original features. The house lies on a forested hillside with fantastic views across the valley of the Bormida river. Most important for us was the delicious food (white truffle), the finest wine (Barolo) and the friends that we have met locally.

What makes this property unique

The villa is centrally located to many of the attractions of Piemonte and Liguria. From the beaches of the Italian Riviera, to the famous vineyards of Barolo, Alba and Asti to the ski resorts and hiking trails of Cuneo in the Maritime Alps: all are within 60 minutes and 60 km from the house.
The Villa provides bright, spacious, modern living with both contemporary designer and antique furniture set within old stone walls and exposed and majestic chestnut, roof beams.
The gardens are extensive with outdoor, heated, salt-water pool, spa, outdoor kitchen with BBQ and dining area. The landscape has plenty of sunny terraces and natural shady glades. Sun-loungers, cushions and pool towels are provided.
