About this property

Cosy holiday cottage in the National Park with stunning views.

The cottage makes an ideal location for active guests who like hiking, mountain biking, geocaching and horse riding & there is never a dull day in Dartmoor National Park! The moor is on the doorstep (literally) and for most people this is the main attraction. The beaches are not far away and the Two Moors Way runs across the top of Wind Tor and this takes you right through to Exmoor. The two pubs (The Rugglestone and The Old Inn) in Widecombe do a thriving trade and are both well worth visiting.

There is a new ‘General Store’ in Widecombe which sells all essentials and more, including a range of organic flours, wines and spirits and almond milk. They have hot pasties for sale daily as well as bread.

The accommodation consists of 1 twin bedroom, 1 double bedroom and a small box room suitable for a young child. There is a fully equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, sun-room and living room. Off road parking for 2 cars, and 20 metres away further parking. The cottage garden has stunning views across the Widecombe valley; there are amazing walks from the doorstep, most of which take in a local pub. Birds, butterflies and bees can all be seen in the garden.

The garden is one of the main features of the cottage and it has benefited from a lot of investment over the years. In order for it to be maintained to a high standard, the gardener does need to attend regularly and because of the vagaries of the weather and the tight schedule he has to adhere to, we cannot always predict when he will arrive so we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. In 2021 the prospective dates when the gardener will visit are as follows: 23.6.21; 7.7.21; 21.7.21; 4.8.21; 18.8.21; 1.9.21; 15.9.21; 29.9.21; 13.10.21; 27.10.21. These dates may change so we do ask for your forbearance.

Lovely quiet views
Stayed with family in this lovely place and greatly enjoyed. The views a great. Plenty of local walks to tors and remaining of bronze age settlements. Very quiet and relaxing place. Nicely presented extension to enjoy morning/evening views of the country side, birds and bouncing little sheep.

Cosy Cottage
The weather was fantastically awful for the week we visited, however, this didn't matter at all as the cottage was so cosy and had such wonderful views, we just relaxed and enjoyed the storms from the big living room window and conservatory! Wonderful stay as always !

The cottage has been in the family since the last century and we love its location and the tranquility of the area.

Why they chose this property

The area is ideal for people who are active and enjoy hiking, geocaching, mountain biking and horse riding. Access to the national park is from the back door and there are loads of walks from there. You won't need your car all week as food is delivered to the door by most supermarkets.

What makes this property unique

Views from the sun room and sundeck are amazing and it is the perfect place to relax, away from the stresses of work and daily life. The views from the cottage of the Widecombe valley are hard to beat and are best taken in while sipping your breakfast tea or sundowner cocktail on the sun deck. It boasts 1 double and 1 twin room and a small downstairs single room. The kitchen has all you will need in the way of utensils and the sunroom is used as the main dining area.

Wifi is available for free and to use the Ohme Pro EV charger, please download Co-charger and I can organise slots for you to charge.

You can walk from the door straight up onto the moor and from there you have access to miles of open countryside. You can even follow the Two Moors Way to Exmoor, 90 miles away! Walking routes are available on the website which is advertised in the cottage.

You will be surrounded by the sites and sounds of the countryside during your stay and don't be surprised to see Dartmoor ponies at the gate. Bird seed is provided and you are welcome to top up the feeders.
