About this property

Village House In Villeneuve Les Corbieres, Corbiere Hills, Aude, Languedoc Rouss

Maison Marcelin is named for Marcelin Albert, considered the leader of the winegrowers revolt of 1907 & the "Robin Hood" of the Languedoc-Roussillon. A metal sculpture in his honor was placed across the street in 2007 to celebrate the independent spirit of this area. Maison Marcelin is a 200-year-old village house that was fully renovated in 1999 after the record-breaking November flood. A plausible story has the house as the stable for the one behind it. Looking at the layout of the two, those with a whimsical side may be persuaded. Perhaps the stock was kept on the ground floor, the tack and equipment on the first, and the stable hands slept on the top. The kitchen was completely renovated in 2012. Villeneuve les Corbieres is foremost a working wine-producing village, but tourism is on the upswing, so there is always a warm welcome for visitors ready to smile and relax.

Together and separately, we have lived in several parts of the world -- France, Germany, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Okinawa, Central America. In the end, we find the Corbieres positively enchanting. Although our present careers keep us USA-bound, we hope to change that and make the permanent move across the water. Any suggestions on how to make that happen are most welcome.

Now . . . we need to find a suitable photo with the both of us . . .

Why they chose this property

For us, finding Maison Marcelin was completely unexpected. We were Americans on our second visit to Southern France -- the first being a rather typical road trip in and around Provence -- attending a conference in Perpignan in 2000. We had no intention of purchasing any kind of property. We were looking solely as an excuse to have a somewhat guided tour of the area by someone local but not in the tourist industry. But once we saw the house, the village, and the surrounding area, we knew we wanted ties in this community. Initially we resisted renting the house, because we have such a strong, personal connection. But friends and family have convinced us to view renting as a way to share this wonderful experience with others of similar temperament.
