About this property

VILLA MOURIA - built c1600.TRADITIONAL AEGEAN HOUSE in Koskinou / Rhodes

The villa is located close to a mulberry tree . In Greek “Mouria” means “Mulberry”, hence the name of the villa.
The floor of the main sala (living room) and of the court yard of the villa is decorated with black and white pebbles that were gathered in the beaches of Rhodes. Those mosaic floors together with the stone-built arch traversing the sala of the villa create a truly relaxing atmosphere. The villa's courtyard is favored by many guests for unwinding while getting engaged in either private or communal activities.

The villa features antique furniture and handcrafted wooden structures.

Main sala: Spacious 45m² / 484ft² living room, supported by a stone arch 5 meter (16.5 ft) high. It features a sitting area (which includes a 220cm (87 inch) long wooden handcrafted couch which can accommodate one sleeper), a dining area, while its exceptionally high ceiling gives room for two traditional wooden carved "pataros" (high level handcrafted sleeping places) each one of which accommodates two sleepers and is separated with the rest of the sala by curtains for privacy.

Courtyard: (about 9m² / 97ft²) Cozy and private open space for relaxing or dining, roofed by a grapevine, a lemon tree and a jasmine tree.

Bedroom 1&2: Two traditional wooden carved "pataros" (handcrafted sleeping platforms) accessed by purpose-built wooden staircases are located at either side of the stone-built arch of the main sala. Each one of the pataros accommodates two sleepers and is separated with the rest of the sala by curtains for privacy.
EACH ONE OF BEDROOMS 1&2 CONSISTS OF ONE "PATAROS" (SPEEPING PLATFORM) AND IS NOT A SEPARATE ROOM. THOSE TWO SLEEPING PLATFORMS ARE LOCATED IN THE SALA OF THE VILLA, the room where traditionally the sleeping places were constructed.

Bedroom 3: Upstairs bedroom featuring a double bed and a window overlooking the courtyard.

Kitchen: Fully equipped.

Bathroom 1: Main bathroom, basin, shower, WC, washing machine. Hot water.

Bathroom 2: Extra small bathroom, small basin, shower, WC. Hot water.

Internet: Wi-Fi. Password given on the 1st encounter with the guests.

TV: Flat screen TV.

Air Condition: Available at the sala and the upstairs bedroom.

Heating in winter: Electric heater.

Parking: Public parking available at 60-100 meters from the villa.

Fabulous find
House was fabulous - everything we needed and not all touristy. Local shopkeeper Frank adopted my 7 year old son - it was safe enough for him to walk the 100m alone to get milk and fresh fruit in the mornings and he was often sent home with figs, honey and Frank's wife's wonderful dolmades. Spraying the mosaic floor in the house with water keeps life cool as in the old days. If you spend most of your holiday on the beach or visiting other parts of the island, this is the place for you. Immaculately clean. We were able to park a car nearby. A real bargain.

Villa MOURIA
We found the house to be everything it described and that the photos cannot explain how lovely the house feels. We had a wonderful family holiday here, and enjoyed the peaceful safe location within such a charming and non touristic village. Spring was ideal for us not too hot, lots of green and flowers. Timoleon the owner was kind and thoughtful giving us a guided tour of the area himself, which is over and above anything we have experienced before. We loved that the village had 3 particularly good tavernas in the streets so we didn't have to go far for an enjoyable night out. We have recommended this to our friends and family, and to anyone reading this. Thanks again to Timoleon for making it a great trip.

VILLA MOURIA
Koskinou is a really pretty village and we found villa Mouria a tipical ancient rodhes house with some little problem bearable. The position is great to visit all the island.

About the host

Host profile image
My name is Stelios Scordilis and I am Greek. I studied economics in England and Holland and then spent time in Singapore and Indonesia. Some years ago I fell in love with Arleika (who is now my wife) and with the village of Koskinou. It was only natural for us to move to Koskinou in Rhodes, the place that we decided that our two children would love to grow up in.

We are happily married and always look forward to accommodate guests in our Villas which are a few centuries old but renovated with full respect to traditional architecture and material used.

Why they chose this property

Along the narrow alleys of the villa's neighborhood are colorful hoses featuring traditional facets which are very popular subjects of photography. Without doubt though, the most rewarding experience while walking around Koskinou village is meeting the villagers themselves who always seem to have the time to welcome visitors for a chat or for a cup of greek coffee, while they are eager to answer questions about anything. These are people that do not occupy themselves with new technologies and social media and are not interested in how branded one looks or how much one's car at home might be worth. These are people that live to live and are proud to share their philosophy with the visitors.

What makes this property unique

The wonderful architecture sort of compels the guests into relaxation.
