Villa Priscilla is a spacious house with sea views over the roof-tops. Car hire from Sixt, in the local shopping area, was straight-forward - we used taxis initially and these are cheap and plentiful. As three 'older' ladies we were however all very disappointed that the bedlinen and towels were all of such poor quality and state of repair, which rather belied the 'luxury' category of the accommodation otherwise. Jan helpfully brought extra rugs etc but even these had holes in them. The children's bedding in the twin room was extremely worn and smelt damp. It would be so easy to rectify this and to provide better pillows, blankets/duvets also. It took a few days for Jan to work out the reverse air-conditioning and only then were the bedrooms warm - it was unfortunate that the weather was extremely cold but this shouldn't have been a problem. We really did not expect to have to wear layers of clothing to bed, along with doubled rugs etc! Unfortunately the lift repair was still outstanding, which was a bit of a problem for my two companions. The lack of light-bulbs in the bathroom could have proved difficult for a 'close shave' visitor. It would be better to replace these with LED ones to avert the 'halogen-induced problems of short life'. Also the skirtings were awaiting repair after an unavoidable mountain flood. We were also surprised at the small number of mugs and medium-sized/fruit bowls and the lack of any jugs. We had a few quick dips in the lovely pool, but this was nowhere near the promised temperature of 20-22 degrees. Apart from all this, Jan was extremely welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, so we could contact him if needed.

We spent our honeymoon in Funchal and enjoyed our stay in this well located spacious Villa. We really enjoyed the pool and outside area which was well maintained and great for relaxing after a busy day of exploring - glass of local wine in hand watching the sunset - total bliss. The Villa has everything you would need for an enjoyable stay in Funchal. Located on a quiet street with a steep incline to villa - not for the faint hearted but a good work out all the same. Local restaurants are only a short walk away with a shopping centre (Forum) 5 minutes walk downhill. We would recommend this villa for your stay in funchal it has it all.

"Fantastically appointed villa in a great location"
We would highly recommend this property. It has fantastic facilities and the swimming pool was great for afternoon swims after a day exploring the island. The walk to Funchal takes about 40 mins and is very pleasant ( especially using the levada above the villa ). Alternatively there are buses and taxis. Supermarket close by, with a vigorous walk up the steep hill, or using the hire car on our way back. The views from the villa are excellent; easy walking distance of shops and restuarants ( Olive near granny's House on Estrada Monumental highly recommended ), but far enough removed to feel off the tourist drag. The island is well worth exploring- amazing levada and mountain walks. Jan the owner was very efficient and friendly and helpful. We hope we return some day

"Fantastic Property in a great location"
We picked this villa due to location and views, were we disappointed DEFINITELY NOT! This villa has everything you need to cook if you want to, chill out in front of the TV or just relax looking at the sea, watching the bananas grow or the lizards sunning themselves, having a washing machine and all the towels/bed linen provided also saves space on case packing. We chose the pick up and return to the Airport which was very good value for the four of us which Jan organised on our behalf and we are glad we did even though you can hire a car you really don't need to at this property as there is plenty of taxis and buses to enable you to go sightseeing also lots of walks. Arrival from being picked up and Jan being at the villa to greet you was 100%, we were shown round the villa and everything was pointed out, the views of the sea and the mountains really did take our breath away. The road upto the villa is steep but once at the corner it is flat, we did this hill probably twice a day but it never got any easier! A walk to Madiera Forum was about 10 min with shops, food outlets and supermarket with taxis right outside. We walked into Funchal town a few times, always a different route but again you can get a bus or taxi. We did the open top bus, whale/dolphin watching, cable car again fantastic views but this isn't for people who don't do heights my husband and daughter went by taxi and met us at the top. There was plenty of places that we wanted to visit but ran out of time as somedays we stayed at the villa and took advantage of the pool. Would we go back and use the same villa even if it was just the two of us its a definate YES!

"Lovely villa . Very relaxing week"
We were lucky to have a week of November sunshine for our 1st stay in Madeira . Gorgeous villa in a great position . Forum shopping centre open for shops /groceries every day till 11pm . On a quiet road but easy access to walks /buses . You can walk into Funchal centre along the main road or nicer routes are by the levada close behind the villa or though the gardens along the coast. As advised by Jan we took the local Rodoeste bus to Porto Moniz - 139 from the stop near the Monumental Grill on the main road into Funchal . Leaves about 9.15am - takes the long scenic route but beautiful views of coast (with 10 minute stop for coffee /toilet )and then mountains through centre of island. There is a faster bus back to Funchal at 4.45 - (or very slow one at 4pm) - this is last bus back so don't miss it! Choose a sunny day to go - rock pools there if you want to swim or just have a coffee and sit and watch the spectacular breaking waves. Also walked to Camara Do Lobos along the coastal walkway - go along main road west past front of Forum and you'll find a road that dips down to the coast past some houses built into the mountains . This takes you to a great walkway which takes you all the way to this lovely fishing village enjoyed by Winston Churchill as a favourite painting spot. We ate in a restaurant along the walkway - looks like a marquee with white parasols outside - try the scabbard . After all the talk of walking you'll find plenty of places in the villa ,both inside and out , to relax - and if you're feeling really lazy there's always your own personal lift !
