This idyllic rural villa is not all it seems to be and may cost you more than you expect!

Villa El Carmen is very well-equipped and spacious on a large plot in a fabulous rural location with great views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. The peace and tranquillity and sunsets were just amazing! However our holiday there was not at all straight forward: Trying to book our 2 week holiday took 4 attempts, as either the new booking system doesn’t work very well or the owner was unable to use it! After our first night at El Carmen our eldest daughter had a severe allergic reaction, as her face/eyes/nose and mouth were severely swollen and she had difficulty breathing. While we did not need to take her to hospital, as we dosed her with a lot of anti-histamine tablets, we discovered that her pillows/sheets and bed were covered in cat/dog hair! We had to wash all the sheets and pillow cases and thoroughly clean the bedroom, as we could not use the 3rd bedroom at all during our 2 week stay, as there were mice in there! The air conditioning unit in the master bedroom had a broken outside grille so birds had built their nests inside and it didn’t work for the entire time we were there. Many sleepless nights resulted despite the use of the fan. The shower in the 2nd bathroom was faulty and although it was repaired, we had a week where 4 people had to shower in one bathroom, far from ideal and not relaxing at all. The hot water supply was very unreliable, resulting in us often having cold showers and also having to boil kettles of water to wash up after meal times. There are notices in each bathroom not to put toilet paper down the toilets, as there have been previous problems due to the villa’s poor drainage system. A bit primitive and something you would not expect to find in a relatively modern villa in Spain. We followed the request and had no problems with the drains while we were there. However after we left the villa the owner informed us that we had blocked the drains by ‘putting garbage down the toilets’ and therefore he was not going to refund any of our deposit, as he had to call out an emergency plumber. We did not ‘put any garbage down the toilets’ so we accepted no responsibility for this. The owner has promised to provide the invoice/evidence from the plumber with a reason for the blockage. After nearly 2 months we are still waiting to see the plumber’s invoice/any evidence and the return of our deposit. Beware: this idyllic rural villa is not all it seems to be and it may cost you more than you expect!

Great villa, amazing location, place to return to.

Beautiful location, surrounded by mountains, relaxed seclusion. Lovely hilltop town of Canillas de Aceituno only 2km away with wonderful restaurants. El Carmen is a great villa. Well equipped, great layout, fabulous pool, lots of places to sit outside. This has to be one of our favourite places we have stayed. The owner added the personal touch of calling us a week before we arrived to answer any questions. He also has a good local team to look after the villa and you if you need it!!!!

Beautiful villa in a fantastic location

This is our second consecutive stay at Villa el Carmen and its hard to beat. Lovely Spanish town with facilities yet a million miles away from the hussle and bustle if you choose. If you stay once there's No reason to stay elsewhere..highly recommend.

I couldn't of asked for a better place

The villas is located in a beautiful area and has amazing views. very relaxing and tranquil but yet not too far from the busy beaches in Tore Del Mar and Nerja etc. The Villa is well equipped and the owner is very professional and helpful. I had amazing time and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.
