Montribot is a small, quiet hamlet, 4km from Rouffignac which has a post office, cashpoint, pharmacy, bars/cafes/restaurants & supermarket. Blondys bakery makes the most delicious cakes & pastries for miles around - you have been warned!! The small, colourful market in Rouffignac on Sunday morning provides really fresh locally produced fruit & vegetables, as well as cheese, wine & other tasty goodies! There is a market every day of the week in one of the nearby villages & towns.
The Perigord has many flower-filled, historic small villages which give the distinct impression that they are lost in time. Many have stunning architecture and usually a small bar or restaurant where it is possible, glass in hand, to while away an hour - or three! - and quietly sample a pace of life long forgotton in a busy world.
The area, and particularly the Dordogne valley, abounds in castles, chateaux & beautiful gardens in stunning locations and may be visited throughout the season.
Les Hirondelles is a small paradise for those interested in all aspects of nature. You can walk directly into lovely flower meadows & woodland & we have many varied & waymarked paths, some of which start almost at the door. Spring is the time for bird watching with more than 70 species recorded around our cottages. Wild flowers, & in particular the orchids, are stunning in spring & early summer. Summer is the ideal time for picnics on the shady banks of a river or relaxing on a lounger by the pool. Autumn is a quieter time, warm with early morning mists & the fantastic changing colours of the forest. The time of bounty with mushrooms, chestnuts & walnuts, and migratiion with Cranes passing overhead in large numbers on their way south to their winter roosts.
For pre-history enthusiasts, the area has the National Centre for Pre-History and the largest concentration of caves and paintings in France. Rouffignac has its own cave with remarkable cave paintings, accessible by an exciting train ride!

"Once again..Fabulous stay at Pippins"
Our fourth stay at Pippins turned out to be as relaxing as the other three occasions. From our first visit the location and facilities far exceeded our expectations. Pippins is a fantastic holiday property with grounds and views to match. The swimming pool could not be set in a more perfect spot. The property is immaculate throughout with all that you need provided, from the washing machine right through to the corkscrew. The on site owners always provide a lovely warm and friendly welcome. They are always around for advice on the local area and amenities if needed but are not intrusive. Couldn't ask for better hosts. Personal favourite attractions are the town of Sarlat, the local markets and canoeing. We would certainly recommend this property for couples or families. We have many happy family memories from our holidays spent here and we will no doubt be visitting again very soon

Another fabulous holiday spent in this beautiful and tranquil setting. The cottages are spotless, well equipped and set in stunning grounds with a pool. The terrace is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the views whilst having a leisurely meal. It’s a great location for exploring the many pretty villages nearby, there are lots of restaurants to suit everyone’s taste, and local markets where you can buy wonderful fresh produce. If you want to be more active, the tree climbing at Thenon was great fun, as was the canoeing along the Dordogne. Rouffignac has all the shops / facilities you need, including a bakers selling the most delicious cakes and bread. Peter and Jeanette made us feel very welcome and were the perfect hosts, always ready to recommend a great place to go, or a restaurant to try. It’s the perfect place for site- seeing, being a bit more adventurous, or to enjoy a swim, relax and unwind. We can’t wait to return again this summer.

"The most relaxing holiday we've ever had"
We would thoroughly recommend Pippin's Cottage. The location is superb and the cottage, grounds and pool are pretty much perfect. The pictures we had seen before we arrived didn't do the location and grounds justice, although the cottage itself was pretty much as shown. The only possible negative that we could think of was that we found the double bed a little uncomfortable but everything else was perfect and absolutely everything you could want had been provided. Peter and Jeanette are excellent hosts, and there is plenty to see and do in the area, as well as good restaurants too of course - although you will do a lot of driving to get everywhere. It was really great to go out for the day, then come back to the pool and to barbecue supper on the patio, ending the evening with a slow stroll across the fields to watch the sunset. The stand -out days of the holiday were when we went canoeing. The Vezere river was actually the best as we hardly saw another soul all day. We would love to go back.

"The Perfect Holiday Location"
We have stayed in Pippin's regularly for over 10 years and the fact that we continually go back really says it all. The owners have somehow developed what to us is a unique form of hospitality - sincere friendliness combined with tactful unobtrusiveness. Yet they are always available to answer questions and to provide advice on what to do, where to go, opportunities to explore - and, where necessary, make bookings on behalf of guests. Without wishing to lay it on too thickly, they are the perfect host and hostess. The cottage is pleasantly furnished and always spotless on arrival. It is comfortable and well-equipped, and the delightful, private terrace, with its stunning views across the valley, is, to all intents and purposes, a second living room. On cooler/wet days, there is a large wood-burning stove with unlimited logs. The area teems with wildlife and the owners are only too happy to assist with advice on flora and fauna from their own extensive knowledge. A cross-section of restaurants lies within easy reach of the cottage and, again, advice and guidance are willingly given. The area is perfect for anyone wishing to experience "la France profonde". Opportunities for walking on well-marked paths abound, ranging from simple and short to longer and more stretching. And we haven't even mentioned the markets, canoeing or prehistoric caving. In spite of over 10 years of visiting, and with unstinting help and assistance from the owners, we are still a long way from exhausting the delights of either the cottage or the area. Will we go and stay in Pippin's again? Yes - and again and again!

About the Owner
For Peter & Jeanette it was love at first sight! After two weeks travelling around SW France, we found our dream home here in Montribot. That was over 15 years ago and we are still in love! Having retired early from our busy and demanding jobs, we moved to France in October 1999. We spent the next two years working on the grounds, installing the pool and renovating the cottages - so many stories to tell!
We opened for business with Pippin's in the summer of 2001 & Sunset followed in 2002. Since then we haven't looked back. We have met so many lovely people over the past 14 years and it is a pleasure to see them return each year, as well as to welcome new guests.
Whatever your reason for visiting us here in this beautiful part of France, we can assure you of a very warm welcome.
