House in Almunecar, Costa Tropical.Private Terraces & BBQ. Lovely Views

Updated: 19-May-2015
@@@15% OFF!!! @@@ House in Almunecar beach. Two swimming pools & Two terraces, Costa Tropical, Spain - Semi private residential area with two swimming pools, one open all year round.

The house is located in the residential area of "Fuentes de Almuñecar" in the Tropical Coast, highly appreciated in the area. All around are mountain and beach landscapes and its tropical climate, mild in summer and warm in winter, with 320 sunny days a year, offers the travelers the whole year option to stay. It is very close (4 mins drive) to several beaches in the form of coves, sandy type, gravel or cliffs and more enlivened beaches with its promenade and town center (5 mins drive) with all kinds of shops, bars and cheerful all year round. For skiing lovers, Sierra Nevada, just 50 min drive, is an ideal choice. The house is large and confortable with great views, Almunecar is a great place, small enough to retain it's charm, big enough to have ample shops and restaurants, it has even an old castle and all kind of attractions on site. It's really a Spanish Resort, so prices are cheap and unlike the Costa del Sol, you really feel you are in Spain.

Fantastic House, great location, beaches nearby, Almunecar a gem

Left on 12/08/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We stayed at Fuentes during October, which due to the southern med location means it's still hot then but the main crowds have left the town. The house is large and comfortable with great views of the mountains and sea.

We went to Granada and the alpujarras, both only 45 mins in the car and fabulous to visit.

Left on 12/09/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We spent one week in this house. The infinity pool was just almost in front of the house, the kids could go there from the house all by themselves, there is a life guard in the pool, and meanwhile we just were enjoying some beers and tapas in the terrace with BBQ with very nice views. The beaches, restaurants, nightlife and almuñécar town were perfect. Back in the house, we used both, the kids in the yard for lunch and the terrace for us, so everyone had fun and their space.

Almunecar Holiday Home

We have just got back from a lovely holiday in this fabulous family house (lots of bathrooms!) in Almunecar. The house is set in a residential zone in a hilly area overlooking the town. The views are truly spectacular and if you enjoy walking as we do, the walk to town is great as you head downhill to the promenade and walk along the seafront. There are plenty little stopping points to get a coffee or a beer on your journey. It took us about 45mins to walk in. There are buses and plenty taxis that are very cheap to get you home too if you decide to have a night out in town! However we spent most time walking down to the promenade (15 mins) and catching the local bars and chiringuito's. It's a lovely quiet area and we loved it as it is very Spanish. We hired a car from Malaga airport and used Economy car hire which was spectacularly cheap and wonderful service. Having a car meant we could visit places easily which was great. We went to Nerja and Malaga to see the Picasso Museum ...fabulous. Very quiet compared to the Barcelona one. Finally, thanks to Miguel who made sure that everything was ready for us when we arrived, even asking Angelita the house keeper to show us to the nearest supermarket....very much appreciated!

Owner's Response: Thank you Frances for your feedback. As the old says goes 'Feedback is a gift' so we really appreciate your comments about our house. Frances & family spent a week in our vacation home, they are great nice people that cared for the house as their own. It was a pleasure to host them there. As Frances describes in the review the house is located in an strategic position looking to the sea at a very nice cove. The Panorama Pool can be used even at night time because they light it and therefore extending the number of hours that you can enjoy the resort located in this privileged spot with its amazing views to maximize the pleasure and relaxation time for a perfect vacation time.

Wonderful house set in the hills above Almunecar with amazing views of the sea and surrounding areas set on a lovely quiet, almost residential complex. The house was very tidy and clean with modern furniture/appliances. The owner is very efficient and in contact if and when you need him. Ideal setting 2 mins walk from the main infinity pool, so felt happy to let our 12 year old go down there on her own. We love this unspoilt area of Spain so much we are in the process of booking again for next year!

All the best, Miguel

From the Owner

The area offers both recreational activities and all practical facilities while still being authentically Spanish. We chose this location instead of the Costa del Sol for its beaty and natural richness and we decided to offer it for holiday lets when we dodn't need it ourselves. Perfectly situated in a quiet residential area, with sea and mountains view and close to the beach and town, it is both ideal as a home and a holiday base. There is easy access to the main roads/motorways leading to Malaga and Granada within an hour, and yet being beyond the cusp of a hill in a private road with surveillance and maintenance, it is completely protected from any traffic. I use to go down to the beach by jogging in ten minutes and breathe deeply in front of the sea.

Closest beaches are aprox. 600 meters. Along the 19 km of local coastline visitors can choose from a large variety of beaches and small coves, ranging from fine sand to shingle. You can access to different beaches from the house, preferably driving 4 min, although a 10 min jogging could be also an option for sport lovers.

Ferry: Almería: 110 km

By Airplane

To arrive by plane in Almuñecar you have 2 choices, via Malaga, which is 70 kms from this city or via Granada which is 64kms from this locality. The Malaga airport is more complete, since it practically has conections with all of Europe and the rest of Spain. Once in the airport, you must travel 90 kms by highway.

Almuñécar old town is 700 meters away. Almuñécar moorish castle is about 700 meters from the house. Marina del Este sport port is 1 km away. Beyond, is the pretty village and horseshoe-shaped bay of La Herradura and another large natural promontory. Farmhouses and small hamlets dot the area overlooked by the Peña Escrita natural park. Granada and the old moresque castle of La Alhambra 70 km. Sierra Nevada ski resort 80 km.

Further Details:

Almunecar and its handsome Moorish castle sit on a small hill between the mouths of two rivers - the Río Seco and the larger Río Verde. The latter runs through Almunecar's Tropical Valley, a fertile area of mainly subtropical fruit orchards that line the valley floor and climb the terraced hillsides. To the west of the town lies the Punta de la Mona, a pineclad headland sheltering the attractive Marina del Este sports port and home to a number of luxury urbanisations. Beyond, is the pretty village and horseshoe-shaped bay of La Herradura and another large natural promontory, Cerro Gordo, which marks the end of the municipality and province. Inland, the approximately 80 km² municipality rises into the hills which form an impressive backdrop to the coast. Farmhouses and small hamlets dot the area overlooked by the Peña Escrita natural park.

Almuñécar was founded by the Phoenicians almost 3000 years ago and has since been occupied by a succession of Mediterranean cultures including, most importantly, the Romans and the Moors. Attracted by the rich trade in local products, the town was one of the most important ports on Spain's Mediterranean coast. Evidence of the area's importance can be seen in the numerous monuments that still exist, especially the Roman fish factory and aqueduct.

Local tourism has traditionally been Spanish and confined to the summer season, especially August when the town is packed out. Important fiestas such as Easter and Christmas are also very busy. Foreigners tend to visit mostly during the Spring and Autumn months when the weather can be superb compared to the north, while winter, apart from Christmas, is relatively quiet.

Foreign residents are a mixed bunch with representatives from most European countries living here year round. French, Belgian, German and English nationalities are the most common, though not necessarily in that order, while the Scandinavians, particularly the Danish, are increasing their numbers.

From the Owner

Before buying the house, we used to spend our vacation time and holidays in hotels, but with three kids is very difficult and expensive, so we found this spot. The infinity pool also is open to the sea and with marvellous views, though hardly used by the other residents, most of whom don't live there permanently, there´re many free sunbeds around. The tropical pool is open all year round and with the local climate and more than 320 sunny days a year as an average we have many chances to get a good swimming, even in winter time. The neighbors, those we have got to know, are very agreeable and helpful. The sea offers a different scene every time... the light, the colours, the fishermans boats and in the distant horizon larger ships. We have even enjoyed sighting dolphins from time to time!
