"First Class Hospitality "

We were so lucky to have had the opportunity to stay with Peter and Felicity in their beautiful B & B. Their hospitality was wonderful, and the accommodation they offer is superb. It is a home away from home. Their knowledge of the local area and beyond is excellent which is invaluable in exploring and experiencing the whole region. You immediately feel like you are in the home of close relatives or friends - the whole atmosphere is warm and friendly. Their advice is well considered and certainly we appreciated this as it allowed us to enjoy each day of travel with more consideration. Travellers get the opportunity to enjoy the local environment and the population and to embrace their culture. We would highly recommend you contact them when planning your holiday.

"Fabulous Hospitality"

Peter and Felicity were amazing hosts! They really went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. An example is even proposing to contact them if we needed help in organising a future vacation in the area! It is clear that they love what they do and this is reflected in the way that they treat their clients. The food was generous, the wine plentiful and they even catered for dietary restrictions. We wouldn't hesitate to go back to see them and their quaint B&B!

Response to review:
We appreciate your comments and are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We enjoyed eating our evening meal together and introducing you to our local wines. It is a great time of the year to explore this beautiful area of France - mellow autumn colours, still some warmth from the sun , the wine harvest and the peace to enjoy the Cathar castles and the unique attractions without the hustle and bustle of the summer crowds! Hope to see you here again.

"Holiday visit"

We had a very friendly welcome at a clean and hospitable house. Felicity & Peter made us so welcome we thought of ourselves as friends and not customers. The bedroom was comfortable and cleaned regularly, and the private shower room was cleaned daily. The breakfasts were splendid and set us up for the day. They advised us of what sites we could visit and the timing taken to get to them, thereby stopped us wasting precious time of our visit. A lot of the sites seem easy to reach on the maps but the terrain was something else and some plans we thought of were not practically possible but with Peter's help we saw more of the countryside than would have been possible. They also arranged a visit to a vineyard/cellar for us free of charge. There are plenty of restaurants around either at or on route to the various sites or local to the house although a car is necessary. Two particularly nice restaurants are within 10 mins of the house. The coast is also within easy reach and a day by the Med. is certainly a good option. The area is well known for the Cathars and their castles. Many still remain as ruins and are spectacular to see. These are highly recommended visits. The mountains are also spectacular and provide views and breathtaking towns perched on the edges of gorges. One particular place to visit is the town of Minerve just north of Carcassonne, which sits above two rivers on the edge of ....nothing! How they built that place in such a beautiful gorge is amazing. There are also many churches and abbeys to see around the area. The town of Carcassonne itself is certainly the jewel in the crown. The medieval town itself is situated within an old town of narrow streets and shops and restaurants, and there is a modern town surrounding all this offering stores and facilities. The Midi canal runs from Toulouse to S?te on the coast and is ever present through out the area. This means that there are many towns which have riverside restaurants. Two worth a visit are at Homps and Trebes which are both within easy reach. We can and do recommend this area and highly recommend the house of Peter and Felicity at Montlaur for comfort and hospitality.

The property was large, attractive, comfortable and tastefully renovated. The owners were welcoming and knew the area well which were bonuses. The village is surrounded by fantastic scenery and many other beautiful places are easily accessible.

The house was fabulous, huge and full of home comforts. The owners were so friendly and helped us plan our days out with road maps and suggestions on places to visit. There Had a brilliant holiday and would highly recommend the location.

The property was brilliantly equipped, especially for families with young children, as the owners have a young grandchild. The location was excellent for exploring the area.
L'Ancienne Pharmacie made an excellent base for our visit to this beautiful region in France. Great home, great location, fantastic weather.

About the Owner

Our own home, L'Ancienne Pharmacie, where we now offer chambres d'hotes, is a few doors down the road towards the centre of the village. We bought it in 2006 as a holiday home for us and our children and grandchildren as we approached retirement. When we had renovated it, we let it as a gite for a few years but spent increasing periods of time here and fell in love with the village, the lifestyle and the slower pace of life- and of course the wine and the sunshine. Montlaur, despite its size (around 600 permanent residents) is a thriving rural village and a little hub for other villages in the Val Dagne with its small shops, school and rich community life. Our family are all regular visitors and participate in the village festivals, in Montlaur and the surrounding areas.

Year property purchased: 2006

What are the unique benefits of the property?

Our children and grandchildren love swimming in the river at Lagrasse and Ribaute and the lake in Carcassonne, with water sports and an adventure climbing circuit.
