All towels and bed linen are fully provided and in addition a laundry service is available on request. Bed linen and towels are changed once a week.

Outside
There is a very large terrace with panoramic views with furniture and seating for 11 people. In addition there is a smaller terrace with a picnic table situated under a large Almond Tree. There is a separate Pool House next to the Pool with a fresh water shower and WC. To help you relax we have put a swing under the tall Altea Tree.

We have tried to keep the old charm of the property with exposed beams original tiles and furnished in a comfortable but rustic fashion.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday check in 4.00pm and check out 11.00am.

Booking notes
Bookings are for a minimum of 7 days and full payment is due prior to confirm each booking. There is no deposit and so far all our clients have not broken anything more than the odd glass! We have a couple who live on the Estate who
will do each turnaround, look after the property and offer the laundry service.
We can now take bookings on weekdays eg. Tues. to Tues.

Distances
The closest Village is Consejero which is approx. 20 minutes drive away. It has a bar/restuarant and shop. The larger town of Lorca which has all the normal supermarkets and shops is 25 minutes drive. Lorca Castle is considered worth visiting on the way down to Lorca.

Further Details
The property is located on our private Estate of 305 hectares and will appeal to those persons who really want to get away from it all. For example to get to the nearest main road is 10 minutes drive. Given the secluded and private setting it is unusual to see more than one or two people per day passing the property, usually mountain bikers. The walking in the Estate is plentiful and the views are both breathtaking and expansive.

About the Owner

We are farmers from Kent who wanted more sunshine and a get-away-from-it-all place. We found La Parrilla on a December afternoon and were amazed at the quiet, peaceful surroundings and the brightness of the natural light. The birdlife and animals never cease to impress us, from eagles to wild goats. The estate has not been farmed for 40 years and we cherish its natural beauty. Renovating the property has been our project for the past 9 years, although a great deal of that time has been relaxing and sharing the experience with friends. We have always tried to support the local businesses and the locals are friendly, generous and patient even with our very basic attempts at the spanish language.

Year property purchased: 2002

Why this location?

Lorca is known as the "city of the sun" in this part of Spain. When we first came to Lorca it was undertaking a transformation:new Millennium Bridge lit up at night over the rambla, roads rebuilt but beautiful old churches and medieval buildings still cherished. We went to the Easter Week Fiesta where we watched the parade and were literally swept along into one of the grand churches. Lorcans are passionate about their fiestas and traditions, such dedication is shown by local groups taking 12 months to repair the bottom 30cm of the 200 year-old silken cloaks of the horseriders. This contrasts with the peace and seclusion of La Parrilla, in the hills with 360 degree views, relaxing by the pool overlooking pine, olive and fig trees (not farmed for 40 years) at one with nature.

What are the unique benefits of the property?

Utter peace and tranquility. A refreshing swim in the 45' pool and then dry off whilst swinging under the Altea tree before moving to the expansive terrace for a glass of wine and barbecue. Maybe a jug of lemonade on the picnic table under the almond tree might be more private, away from the family. Fancy a walk before breakfast? Then follow the winding track up the hill to the Hermita del Pradico (a rarely used retreat) for spectacular views. As the evenings draw in what better than to sit by a roaring log fire to read or enjoy a game of cards or just partake in conversation. Close the shutters at night and most people have been amazed at how long they sleep, even children, owing to the quiet.
