About the area
Beaches are approximately 1 hour away by car. However, there are many places to swim in the rivers and pools on Dartmoor. There is nothing to beat wild swimming on Dartmoor! There is a man-made pool in a river just on the open moor with a natural slide where children are often seen having great fun.
In Chagford there is an open air swimming pool which is open during the warmer months.
I don't play golf but apparently the nearest Golf Clubs are here (according to Google - please check for yourself).

How to get there
This cottage is in a small village in the north east section of the Dartmoor National Park and therefore some form of transport is necessary.
Exeter airport is about 25 minutes to the east and Plymouth is about 1 hour south. The cottage is approximately 5 minutes from the A30, so perfect for getting on to a fast road to explore further afield.
The nearest shop suitable for stocking the cupboards is about 3 miles away.
Throwleigh village is only 3 miles from the A30, approx 4 miles from Chagford and about 6 miles from Okehampton. Exeter is 25 minutes to the east. The open moor is about 10 minutes walk. Dartmoor has so many places of interest, all within easy reach by car and many places close enough to walk to.
There are many places to eat or get refreshments including some wonderful pubs, the local being the Northmore Arms which has a range of ales, ciders, wines etc. and also fantastic food. It also has a garden to use when the weather permits.
Dartmoor is famous for its many Tors which must be explored to enjoy them to their utmost. Children should try out letterboxing which is great fun, so find out more about this fun activity as soon as possible. Ancient ruins, stone circles, standing stones, hut circles and village ruins dating back thousands of years are all to be found in Dartmoor. The rivers are great for swimming or paddling, fishing, rock jumping or just for cooling your feet after a long trek.

"home from home"
We really love this cottage. It's homely and comfortable, and well-provisioned with everything you need; it's easy to walk to the moor or to the pub, and in a lovely and friendly village. So many little birds too if you fill up the feeders. we've been before, and we'll come again

We spent an enjoyable few days over New Year in this lovely cosy cottage with its Christmas decorations and very efficient log burner. The location is ideal for walks from the door even in very wet weather and the welcoming local pub is a hidden gem. The cottage is well equipped with plenty of parking, comfortable beds and settees and very kind neighbours. Our only disappointment is that we were the only ones at Midnight on New Year's Eve dancing round Throwleigh cross!

I cannot believe how peaceful it was. I was frightened of feeling 'cut off' but realised I really enjoyed the peace and quiet and now want to live there forever! We loved it! Thank you,
How wonderful to stay in a cottage with comfortable beds! 'Tucksmoor' had everything we wanted - the kitchen is ideal with all the necessary gizmos to make cooking after a long walk as easy as possible - we especially found the slow cooker useful. The log burner was lovely and we found we did not use the TV as we all talked more, read more and enjoyed the board games and jigsaws. I was the Ludo champion! Very friendly locals at the Pub and great real ale. We can't wait to go back.

About the Owner
My wife Gemma and I have five children. We are self employed and run our own printing company. We have always enjoyed holidaying in self catering cottages where we could 'do our own thing'. As children, we both had holidays with our respective families in Devon, especially Dartmoor so it is very much a favourite of ours. We prefer places where we can please ourselves and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Why this location?
We wanted to have a property in the Dartmoor National Park, but ease of access was very important. So when we found this cottage in Throwleigh it was perfect as it is only about 3 miles from the A30 yet it feels as if it is deep in the countryside. The open moor is easily accessible with its ancient history and great walks with beautiful views and Chagford which is one of our favourite stannery towns is about 4 miles away. Throwleigh is in the quieter part of Dartmoor which does not suffer from the Summer crowds. You can walk for miles on the moor even in the height of Summer without seeing another person, yet you are only a few miles from a wonderful friendly pub when required.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
Being on the edge of the village and overlooking the countryside, this cottage is so peaceful. Many cottages we viewed before buying this one, did not have their own off road parking nor a garden, both of which we believe are very important. We also wanted a real fire or log burner to give the cottage character. We were determined to set this cottage up so that we could arrive and know that it would have everything we would require - especially comfortable beds! An absolute necessity. All our guests have agreed with us so far. We ask our guests to leave any suggestions on a note in the postbox for us to see when we visit approximately every month, so that we can be happy that we are pleasing everyone whenever possible.
