Villa Petalutha, Spartilas, Corfu, Greece - Secluded Location, Private Infinity Pool and Panoramic Views of the Island

Villa Petalutha is featured in the May 2015 edition of Woman and Home magazine as one of their favourite villas. The villa is located on the outskirts of the traditional mountain village of Spartilas. Nestling beneath the imposing Mount Pantokrator, it offers privacy and seclusion, yet is only 5 minutes drive or 10 minutes scenic walk to the village. The popular resort of Barbati, with beautifully clear water and safe swimming, is 15 minutes drive away. The airport and cosmopolitan Corfu town, a world heritage site, are 40 minutes drive. The area is one of outstanding natural beauty; a peaceful haven for wildlife, including eagles, lizards and butterflies, from which the villa takes its name. Set in its own olive grove and blending superbly with its surroundings, this luxurious villa is built to a high specification. It's unique split level design was inspired by the natural terraces of the hillside and maximises the breathtaking 180 degree views of the beautiful east coast bays, Corfu town, the spectacular mountains of central Corfu and the glorious sunsets of the west coast. About the Owner

My husband David and I live in the Chew Valley near Bristol. I am a retired primary school teacher and my husband is a retired BT manager. We have three children; two boys in their twenties and a teenage daughter. We have always enjoyed family holidays together and we first came to Corfu in 1999. We loved the crystal clear waters, the tiny pebble beaches and the spectacular mountains that roll down to the sea. We have stayed in more exotic locations but always return to Corfu as our preferred destination. It has always been my dream to have our own villa on the island and now that dream has been realised. Our villa is in a magical location and has been superbly landscaped by Harvey Johnson, who is an award-winning builder in the UK. It will delight all who visit.

Stunning location

  • 5 out of 5
A beautifully appointed villa set in a secluded location with breathtaking views of the mountains, Ipsos bay and Corfu town beyond. There are two excellent restaurants within a 10 minute drive and a local shop, cafe and snack bar in the nearby village of Spartilas. The villa has an impressive deck for dining and relaxing and a superb infinity pool that reached a comfortable temperature during our stay. If you are seeking seclusion and stunning views you will struggle to find better.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this lovely review Neil. We are so pleased that you were impressed with the villa and its location. We spent a long time looking at sites for our villa and we believe that the views we have are the best on the island. Even the local villagers love to visit to enjoy the stunning vista!

A Piece of Paradise

  • 5 out of 5
This is a truly spectacular villa. It is beautifully designed and the owners have furnished and equipped it to the highest standard. The views are absolutely breathtaking. Whilst we were there, you could see the sea around the whole coastline from East to West. The large pool is clean and cooling on a hot day and there are lots of sunbeds for relaxation. The roof terrace leading from the main living area of the house is wonderful. We spent many evenings enjoying the mesmerizing evening light across the island. Although very peaceful and quiet, the villa is not too far from the beach or from Corfu town. We enjoyed several trips out including hiring a boat from Nissaki and explored the tiny bays around the coast. I would highly recommend this villa and hope to be back next year!

Absolute Luxury

  • 5 out of 5
Thank you so much for letting us stay at your beautiful villa.

The views are absolutely breathtaking and a wonderful reward for the long windy drive up in to the hills!

The villa is very clean, bright and spacious. The owners have decorated it very tastefully and it is superbly equipped with everything you may need.

The inside is gorgeous but the outside space is where the villa comes alive. A beautiful infinity pool benefitting from the stunning views, a hammock, viewing platform, deck chairs, a lounge area and huge BBQ and picnic table. There were so many places to catch a few rays and get a view over the island, it was hard to decide where to go!

We can't wait to return!!

Splendid

Fantastic Villa, finished to a very high standard, with loads of space. Wonderful outside areas and everything thoughtfully laid out. We had some pretty poor weather and yet still had a great time. Drive up to the villa from Coast level is quite bendy, but the views from the top more than makes up for it!

Brilliant Villa

  • 5 out of 5
A group of us had a brilliant long weekend at Villa Petalutha at Easter.
The villa is beautifully designed and located and extremely well 'kitted out'. We thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic views from the terrace; lazing by the pool; walking to the village; wildflowers, birds & butterflies; Easter celebrations in Corfu Town & Spartilas Village; friendly, welcoming manager; visits to nearby beaches; gorgeous meals at local tavernas and many photo opportunities. What an experience - we wish we could have stayed MUCH longer!

Owner's Response: Easter is a magical time to visit Corfu. The celebrations in Corfu town and all the villages are wonderful; from the unique 'pot throwing' from high balconies on Easter Saturday to the candlelight processions of choirs and orchestras and the tremendous feasts of spit roast lamb or goat. We are so glad that you were able to experience a Greek Easter! Hope you are able to return another year!

What an amazing villa

  • 5 out of 5
We booked this holiday a year in advance and spent the 12 months getting excited about it. All I can say is that Villa Petalutha did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived to the time we left we could not fault it. The view was truley outstanding - the villa beautiful, comfy and practical. It suited everybody even our 9 month old and our 4 year old. If you need to get away from it you could always find a secluded spot to rest in, or there a plenty of places to explore. This is the first time I have been to Corfu and I am so glad we chose to come to this part. The people are friendly and welcoming and the food delicious.
It was even good to get the adrenalin pumping for a minute or so each day tackling the drive.
I hope very much to come back to Corfu in a few years, when I do I hope that this Villa is available, as to stay anywhere else would be a let down.

Location

From the Owner

Corfu is a delightful island that has something for everyone. We spent months searching for a plot of land in exactly the right location;away from the busy tourist resorts yet within reach of our favourite beaches, no more than 45 minutes drive from the airport and keeping Corfu town easily accessible. We wanted the dramatic and interesting views that only a mountain location can give but still wanted to be near a village community. Peace and tranquility was high on the list. When we first visited our plot of land, it was filled with beautiful wild flowers that attracted a host of brightly coloured butterflies (petalutha). The only sounds were the cicadas, the church bell and the bleat of a wild goat and then we saw the views...we knew that this was where we wanted to build our villa.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Corfu International Airport at 23 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Oros bar at 500 Metres Nearest Ferry : New Port, Corfu Town at 22 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Ropa Valley at 18 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Agnadio's in Spartilas at 3 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Barbati - a beautiful, long, pebble beach at 6 Kilometres Car: recommended

Villa Petalutha is ideally situated for walking enthusiasts and the slightly cooler temperatures of Spring or Autumn are perfect for this.

Lovers of flora and fauna will appreciate the variety of natural life documented in Gerald Durrell's famous novel 'My family and other animals'.

Artists would love the fantastic Corfu light and the constantly changing landscape.

Coast/Beach:

Corfu is blessed with many beautiful bays with crystal clear waters and safe swimming. The lovely white pebble beach of Barbati is just 6km away. From here, as with several of the north east beaches, you can hire a small boat or enjoy a range of water sports. Driving north from Barbati, there are pretty coves with lovely beaches to explore, some that are only accessible by boat, offering greater seclusion.

If sandy beaches are preferred, these are along the north or west coast 30 mins away.

Travel:

Direct flights from most regional UK airports are available from late March to early November. Easyjet fly from Bristol, Manchester and Gatwick. Other airlines include Olympic, Thomson, Thomas Cook, Ryan Air and Monarch. Car hire is essential and pick up and drop off at the airport is available from most car hire firms.

Distances:

Corfu Town 23km. Barbati 6km. Nissaki 10km. Agios Stephanos (NE) 23km. Kassiopi 24km. Paleokastritsa 26km.

Further Details:

Spartilas has a bakery, opening every morning for fresh bread, mini market for essentials, 2 traditional bars where locals meet, a snack bar and a cafe. It has remained unspoilt by tourism and has a charm of its own. There is an abundance of eating places to discover along the coastline or further inland in the traditional villages, including several excellent tavernas within 10 minutes drive of the villa. For a special evening, take a free boat taxi from Kalami bay and experience the delights of the coastline at night, arriving at any one of the famous and ever popular tavernas of Agni bay. Alternatively, book a boat trip to Corfu town for the evening and soak up the Greek culture with a walk along the Liston followed by a meal. For those who prefer to cook and dine at the villa, we have provided an extensive range of cookware and utensils. There are many large supermarkets along the main coastal road and excellent butchers near Ipsos. There is a very good fish market held daily in Corfu town near the old fort. With its Venetian influence, Corfu town is a fascinating place to visit, especially the old town, filled with tiny alleyways and artisan shops spilling onto the cobbles. The famous Liston is most atmospheric in the cool of the evening, where you can shop for leather goods, local crafts, and jewellery or enjoy a coffee and soak up the culture. There are beautiful churches, often hidden away, and interesting museums and ruins to visit. For water lovers, there are two large water parks on the island, both within 30 minutes drive of the villa. One is in Acharavi on the north coast and the other is inland at Agios Ioannis. If you are interested in horse riding, there are several English speaking stables within reach of the villa. The nearest ATM for cash is along the coast road at Ipsos 7km.

Facilities

From the Owner

Having stayed in many holiday villas we knew exactly what we wanted to provide in ours. We have spent a long time choosing good quality furniture, most of which has come from England. We have bought pocket sprung mattresses and egyptian cotton sheets and towels to make your stay more comfortable. As I am a keen cook myself, the kitchen has been carefully designed to faciliate use and is extensively equipped, including professional chef's knives, so that cooking a main meal or preparing a light snack is a pleasure. The view can still be enjoyed as you stand at the sink! The ever changing light across the landscape during the day is mesmerising and at night the panorama of bays and the little inland villages become a show of twinkling lights - perfect for evening dining on the roof terrace.
