About this property

Self Catering Cottage With Swimming Pool

Nestled in the rural hills of Tuscany, just 22km from Arezzo and 12km from Palazzo del Pero and set in a borgo dating back to 1799 lies Borgo san Biagio. The cottage has been restored retaining all the old traditions and original architecture. A swimming pool 20m from the cottage and the wood fired pizza oven is a few steps away. The medieval towns of Cortona, Assisi, Angihari and Siena are within easy reach and romantic city of Florence is just 70km. The monthly antiques market or the Satuday market in Arezzo is a must, so to the summer jazz and choral festivals. Arezzo has Piero della Francesca frescoes and painting and a large collection in Sansopolcra is a great day trip, together with the Madonna del Parto in Monterchi. Great restaurants in the area and in Arezzo make the area well worth a visit. We are open all year. Enjoy a romantic winter holiday in these rural hills and visits to the many beautiful medieaval towns close-by. We collect you at Arezzo train station if required and have a vehicle for hire when you need transport.

Beautiful Tuscan hills
The location is remote but we found it ok and the panoramic views are definitely worth the drive. This was perfect for us as we love nature and the outdoors and really enjoyed hearing the wildlife on an evening. We were greeted by the loveliest couple you could wish to meet and instantly felt welcome and relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always available if you needed any help. The cottage was gorgeous and very comfortable to stay in. Outside we loved being able to use the bbq and pizza oven And sitting around the pool on an evening. The water here is gorgeous not only to drink but also to wash your hair it feels like silk and in the swimming pool it’s so fresh and revitalising. Anyone booking San Biagio for a holiday will not be disappointed! Until next time ....

Peaceful, back of beyond
The cottage is in a beautiful setting, which we did not see until the morning after our arrival. This was due to a rally going on around the area. The road to the property was blocked until after 9:30pm. This meant we couldn't check in until after 10pm. Thankfully, John and Dianne met us at the top of the "white road ". The cottage is exactly as described, quaint, romantic and contains all you need for a great stay. If there is anything else you need, John and Di will do their best to provide it (including a secure fenced area for our dogs!). We saw so much wildlife, wild boars, owls, fox, eagles, sheep and an amazing numbers of butterflies, iridescent flying beetles, fire flies, scorpions (small and not deadly), evidence of porcupines and heard the farmers dogs at night! Be aware the cottage is a good 20 mins drive to the village, which is small, with a couple of eateries only. However, out and about, there are many beautiful villages and towns to visit, forest walks, rivers and lakes worth a look. Due to the mountainous area and remoteness of the cottage, WiFi, and phone connections are unpredicticable, but this just adds to the peacefulness and serenity of the location. Thank you John and Di! A hidden gem!
It took us a while to find our way, but John went that extra mile (literally) to help us find our little sanctuary. San Biagio was delightful, quaint and romantic, but definitely not for people with mobility problems . John and Diane were perfect hosts, a great couple with plenty local knowledge and many talents, who were willing to share it and were usually on hand if you needed them. (we did several times! John, how do we BBQ without charcoal? Where is ....? What is...?) John and Diane also had a special little visitor when we were there, which made our stay even more memorable. Good things: A trip to Florence is a must, ( hop on and off city tour bus allows you to see much of the city) Cortona is amazing, Architecture goes without saying! Market in Arezzo, Paradiso ice cream in Arezzo, Bellini, local woodland walks (wear long trousers) Just driving and taking in the scenery, sunsets, wildlife! We saw our first ever fireflies...I could go on forever. Bad things?: Not really, but be prepared to quickly get to grips with the road system. If you see the road sign for a village, you've probably passed it already. It does make it part of the fun of the holiday though. We've many happy memories of our first visit to San Biagio. Thanks

Tuscany Idyll
After a 24hr delay, we were met at Arezzo Station by our charming hosts John and Dianne. We arrived at the cottage weary, but very happy to be there. We were delighted with our accomodation, which was better than we had anticipated, beautifully and tastefully furnished in the Tuscan style. It was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. Because Dianne was in Pisa during the week teaching, John was the perfect host, we could not have been looked after better, almost like one of the family. John accompanied us on various trips, driving us to whereever we wanted to go. We had a wonderful holiday and would definately recommend this property and the owners to our friends and family The perfect retreat from the stresses and strains of the world outside.

Dianne and I moved to Italy in December 2008 to take up residence on our property in Tuscany. Dianne is a primary school teacher with over 30 yrs experience. Dianne teaches in the historical City of Pisa. I am a building and civil engineering project manager and manage the property. I love snow skiing and road running. My interests are architecture, design and restoration a passion. We love making pizza and focaccia in our wood fired pizza oven at the pool. I am originally from South Africa and had frequently travelled to Tuscany. Dianne and I, married 38 yrs ago, have beautiful twin daughters, Caitlyn, 24, living and working in London and Cathryn who with her daughter is now living at San Biagio. Our son, Jonathan 24, is a Chartered Accountant now working in London.

Why they chose this property

We bought the property because of its rural location, it's authenticity and the unbelievable romantic charm of the cottage. It's the ideal location a must for your honeymoon or a romantic interlude. The peace and tranquility of the area encompassed all that we were looking for. An atmosphere that could easily transport you back to the 1799 the date of it's foundations. Near to a small village and close to the City of Arezzo with all the requirements of modern life.

The historical City of Arezzo is a wonderful place to visit with its beautiful Cathedral, Vasari's House, the Roman Amphitheatre, its great restaurants and its close proxcimity to other hilltop towns such as Citerna, Angihari, Cortona and Siena, or even a day trip to Assisi

What makes this property unique

The quietness and beauty of the area with it's forest a mere walk away and yet just 3 km from the village restaurant. The shepherd that passes each day moving his sheep from one field to the next and the sound s of the woodpecker carving his nest. A 20 km drive puts you in Arezzo and within easy reach of Cortona, Assisi and Siena. Arezzo is also on the autostrada and main rail link between Rome and Milan and only 60 km from romantic Florence.

We provide local advice on visits to local ancient towns and sights. We can also accompany you or drive you to these destinations to make the trip even more memorable.

We have a vehicle for hire on a day to day basis at very reasonable rates for our guests.

The pizza oven is a huge plus and with a little instruction you can enjoy the best pi
