Surrounded by lawns, olives, woods and a mountainous horizon, anyone staying at Casa di Luce will appreciate the superb views and the special sense of peace and calm. The villa has been lovingly restored and decorated in a modern chic style that blends seamlessly with the traditional stone walls and ancient wood beamed ceilings. Special attention has been paid to indoor lighting to create an intimate, but open and airy space. Swimming in the infinity edge pool, with a glass of wonderful Italian wine at hand, or just relaxing after a hard day of visiting idyllic local medieval villages and towns, Casa di Luce is ideal for friends and for families in search of a place of style, beauty and tranquility.
This villa is perfect for friends or families as the reception rooms are large and allow plenty of private space. The external decked area at the rear is a dream for watching those glorious sunsets. The covered loggia is perfect for barbecues and outside didning.

Reading and film room. 40 inch LCD screen with DVD and small film library. Also has Xbox and a number of Xbox games. Study with internet access and printing.
Towels and linens are included. There is standard weekly change and cleaning. Additional maid service available at an additional charge.

There is a suite downstairs that can be accessed easily. However the house is on multiple levels and has steps from the library/TV room down to the sitting room. The upstairs rooms can be accessed directly from the car parking area.
Private horizon edged swimming pool (15 metres X 4 approx). 10 sun loungers and towels. Hammock. Table tennis table. Barbecue. Outside (covered) eating area (Loggia) which can be accessed through the kitchen or sitting room. The downstairs suite has its own private patio with seating. There are large areas of lawn and 35 or so olive and fruit trees.
Important notes on accommodation
There are a number of games available at the house as well as table tennis. The emphasis internally is comfort and calm. Lots of books and plenty of quiet reading areas which make it difficult to tear oneself away from the house!

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in Sterling. For other currencies please ask. In colder months there is an additional charge for heating.
Booking is flexible as the house is used by the owner and his family when not rented out. 50% of the fee must be paid on booking if more than 8 weeks before the holiday. The remainder within 8 weeks of rental date. There is a deposit equal to 50% of the total rental fee required, to be paid with second 50% payment.
About the area
90 minutes form both Italian coasts. 30 minutes from Lake Trasimeno (60 miles long) for local sailing etc.
A Robert Trent Jones designed ch18 hole championship course surrounding a medieval castle (with restaurant) is 20 minutes drive from the house. The course is beautifully maintained with really well thought out bunkering. Its also stunning to look at. Its not busy and a round costs about 50 Euros (including buggy).
Perugia has a golf course which is 35minutes drive.

How to get there
The local airport is Perugia. It is 28km from the house (20 minutes drive). Perugia is a direct flight from Stansted. It is also 2 hours from Ancona, Florence and Rome airports. We think a hire car is essential, however there are taxi services available.
2 km from Montone (rated one of the top 5 most beautiful villages in Italy). 28km to Perugia (also easy to get to by train from the nearest town, Umbertide (8 minutes by car). 100km to Rome, Sienna and Florence. 30km to Assisi and Cortona. Other places not to miss and within 45 minutes are Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Spello and many beautiful small medieval villages.
There are 3 supermarkets in Umbertide which is 8-10 minutes away by car. There are a number of excellent restaurants from great local fare to a michelin star restaurant 20 minutes away. Montone has 3 excellent restaurants and a bank. Locally there is easy access to horse riding, micro lighting, tennis etc.

"Stunning villa in beautiful location"
Casa di Luce is a super stylish villa which our 2 families would not hesitate to recommend. We were warmly welcomed by Christine who manages the property. She was full of excellent advice and interesting ideas for activities during our week long stay and any problems we had were ironed out quickly and efficiently by her and her team. The luxurious interior of the villa shows great attention to detail and it is obvious that the family love spending time there. The master suite upstairs is stunning and a real treat to wake up in the morning to see the sunlight streaming through the many windows with views of the beautiful surrounding countryside. The pool was a hit with us all but particularly the teenagers who spent a great deal of time there and the pool area has sufficient space to sit and relax on the sunloungers. The village of Montone is lovely and full of character and although small, has a busy little main square with some lovely restaurants within and just off the square. The village is a good walk from the villa up a steep and windy road, so I would say a car is essential especially if you want to go out in the evening. However, we stayed in some evenings as the villa is so comfortable and well equipped and we were happy to cook for ourselves. My only recommendation would be to have more comfortable outdoor furniture as there is a lovely covered loggia with a large wooden table and benches on one side of the dining room and another space on the other side which is decked but needs more comfortable seating for 8 to see the glorious sunsets over the valley. The area surrounding Montone is very old and many of the surrounding towns and villages are full of character. Whilst travelling in the area we enjoyed a day visit to Perugia, a day at the Castiglione del Lago and we went to Gubbio for a late afternoon early evening meal which was lovely. Umbertide is the best town for food shopping with a few larger supermarkets. All in all a super relaxing holiday in glorious surroundings. Not to be missed!

About the Owner
Building the house in Italy has been a long term dream, mainly as a way of friends and family getting together (they are spread around the world). We wanted to create something special enough so that they felt that their holiday was not just about meeting old friend but a really memorable holiday at the same time.
My wife (lawyer) and I (CEO in IT) have a 4 year old and we spend as much time in Italy as we can. The idea of the rental for us is to cover the cost of maintaining the house and to have continual life in the place (empty houses seem to me to slowly die).
We have tried to make this house without compromise as it is where we want to spend our time.

Why this location?
The views are stunning. The house is private (only house on its own private road) but near enough to a truly beautiful medieval village (Montone is 1.5 miles) to be able to pop in for an aperitif or for lunch in one of 3 really good restaurants. We get over 250 days a year of sunshine but still get a pleasant breeze in summer so it never gets unbearable. The house is located near to really interesting places that we love to visit (Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Siena, Florence, Cortona etc etc) and we have been so welcomed by the locals that it feels a very special place. Italy is stunning (ridiculously so), friendly with wonderful food and stunning wine. All pretty perfect really.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
Firstly as you drive up to the house time changes. Watches seem to stop and relaxation happens instantly. The house is built to be beautiful but functional. We found most Italian properties to be cluttered and dark. We have built something open and light but still with the classic Italian structure. The pool is beautiful. The horizon edge means whilst in it all you can see is the mountains and valley in the distance. Although there are all the facilities you could wish for in the area you don't need to move (at all).
