This villa is a little corner of heaven , everything the owner described and then some . Due to sudden unforeseen circumstances we thought right up almost to the point of departure that we may have to cancel our holiday .Peace and quiet and a little bit of luxury were what was required , and this villa delivers on each of these counts . And it is thanks in no small way to Mariella that we were able to rearrange at short notice , she was accommodating , helpful and kind , we owe her a debt of gratitude . The villa was spotlessly clean , very well equipped and comfortable . In fact if you are running running late or think you have forgotten something , don't worry , at this villa you really can hit the ground running , there is everything you need to get you started , even fruit in the bowl ! There are beautiful views everywhere , mountains and sea . But if you really just want to relax and unwind then this is the spot . Complete with a fantastic little pool , much larger than in some places we have stayed and was cleaned twice during our short stay , incredible at night with its own coloured lighting , and there are even sockets for power around the pool and the terrace . And all the necessary essentials within a short distance , shops , restraunts , walking , water sports , boat hire etc , etc . We will definitely go back , and next time stay a little longer , we were sad leaving this beautiful villa in its beautiful surroundings .

"A little piece of paradise"
This was our second stay in this lovely villa, and it was every bit as wonderful as we remembered. Our family (myself, my husband and our 12 and 16-year olds) spent three weeks in this little piece of paradise and all thoroughly enjoyed it. You couldn't ask for a better location: views out over the Mediterranean, two beaches within walking distance, a walk up to the village of Scopello for an ice cream, meal out or to sip Amaretto while watching the world go by. It's also easy to shop for food in the village, the nearby minimarket and greengrocer (complete with very drinkable local wine at 1.50 Euros a litre) or the supermarkets in Castellammare. The house itself is well appointed and equipped, but the real joy is the balcony and the pool area, where we spent hours lazing in the sun, reading and swimming. Moonlight swims were a special treat for us. It's also a good base for some fantastic days out: we visited the archaeological sites at Mozia, Solunto, Segesta and Agrigento as well as the hillside town of Erice, Marsala and Palermo. This time we were able to meet the owner, Mariella, and her family, who welcomed us warmly. This is a very special place indeed.

From first contact with the owner, Mariella, we knew we were in for a treat. Her communications were excellent and the detailled directions to the property would be extremely unlikely to be misunderstood (a must for driving on Italian roads). The property had just been refurbished and there were a few very minor 'snagging' problems to sort out. They were sorted out very quickly and efficiently. The situation is very quiet and the view is stunning. Bedrooms are very comfortable, shower is efficient and kitchen is very well equipped for cooking full meals or just having snack types. The sitting room/kitchen is a very pleasant room, but the balcony is outstanding. The Pool is well maintained and secured to prevent children from sneaking in unsupervised! Access to the actual property has the occasional step, but should present no real problem to a disabled visitor. One point of caution though for those who have mobility problems. The 550 metre road from the property to the 'main' road to the village of Scopello is very steep uphill. While we walked to and from Scopello several times (I will not drink and drive, but I do like wine with dinner), the walk to the village was normally about 30 mins and the return 20 mins. There are several very good restaurants in the village (we particularly liked the one of the Hotel Torres Bennistre), some reasonable Italian Style fast-food restaurants, and a couple of very pleasant bars, in particlar the Bar Pasticceria Scopello. There is also a bakery which also serves delicious and filling 'sandwiches', and a small general alimentari whose hours are a bit excentric. The Tonnara di Scopello is a bit of a let down. Entrance is 3 Euro per person, but this merely allows access to the slipway and the front of the buildings for sun and sea bathing. Somewhat over-priced. The paths in Lo Zingaro are fairly reasonable, but shade is very limited and a large quantity of water needs to be carried.

Everybody is stunned by the location. A couple said to me at the end of their stay : we thought we would be spending our nights out, but it's so nice here we were happy to have our dinner on the terrace and just watch the view.
About the Owner
We are a family of three : my partner and I are both teachers, our daughter, Irene, is 7 and goes to primary school.
Year property purchased: 1980's
Why this location?
My family has had this house since the 80s. We bought it when this was still an unknown place, enchanted by the stunning location and the quiet. We live in Berlin now, but we come here at least a few weeks every year in the summer and whenever we come it is for us a break from the noise and the stress of our daily life. We love the colours, which change according to the season, the silence, broken only by the singing of the birds and the sound of the waves from the nearby beach, the smells, a mixture of flowers from the garden and sea water. We could sit for hours just enjoying the peace and the view.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
Although located in a quiet area, away from the main road and the noise, the house is at a short distance from the village of Scopello and close to several restaurants, bars and pizza places. There is a little supermarket and a vegetable market just 5 minutes by car and the town of Castellammare, offering all kinds of facilities, shops and entertainments, is at 15 minutes' drive. The beach is at few steps from the house and the beautiful reserve Lo Zingaro at 1 km. Besides the house lies just between the sea and the mountains, offering the chance of mountain walks to the trekking lovers. If you want to cool off and rest, you can just sunbathe and enjoy the pool, but if you want to keep in touch with work and home, bring your laptop along and connect to our wi/fi network.
