A selection of good tavernas both fish and traditional lamb and pork dishes are available. The Cretans really are very friendly and welcoming. You are assured of a wonderful welcome. The historic Venitian City of Chania is merely a 20 min drive or bus drive away. It is a shopper’s paradise with markets, walkways and harbour. Further in land experience traditional Cretan Villages. There is so much to see in this area you will want to come back.

How to get there
Chania Airport 30 mins. Heraklion Airport 90 mins. Car hire contacts available. Car not essential if you want to experience typical Cretan village life and a beach holiday. Flights with Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch, Thomsonfly. First Choice, Aegeanair and Olympic Airways are available to Chania from most of the major UK airports. Easyjet flights direct to Chania from Gatwick. Ryanair direct from Glasgow, Stansted, Bristol etc. Also try www.skyscanner.net
5 minutes walk to the centre of Kalives village. Souda port 15 mins drive. Lake Kournas 35 mins drive. Almirida beach 10 mins drive. Souda Allied War Cemetry 20 mins drive.
Supermarket opposite the apartment. Excellent range of Taverna's 1 min away and in the village centre. Lots of local shops to meet your everyday needs and a range of tourist shops.
Willing to swap in town like Rome, Barcelona, Nice, Madrid, Paris.

"Good to be back !"
Spent another great fortnight in the Warwick's apartment in Kalives. This was our third visit over the space of 5 years. Good location on the edge of a 'real' village, where you can spend time over a Mythos outside the bar in the centre, watching the world go by. Good beaches and a wide choice of tavernas in the village, all offering good food at very reasonable prices, with friendly service thrown in. We hired a car and enjoyed driving through the mountains to the south and west coasts. So much to do and see in the area that a third visit doesn't seem repetitive. Enjoy a boat trip from Chania or Kissamos, or a wander through the narrow streets and harbour side in Chania or Rethymnon. All this and a supermarket just across the road ! Highly recommended.

Yes we enjoyed our stay in Crete, it all seems rather along time ago now! The apartment was clean and adequate, and had every thing we needed, perfect for INCA supermarket and the village of Kalyves which is delightful. The apartment site was excellent if you didn't want the hassle of a hired car. The bus from the airport dropped us off just outside the apartment and there was a good bus service into Chania several times a day. We hired a car locally on a few occasions and experienced the delights of the White Mountains, the lake at Kavalos and the south coast along to Frangokastello.

"Return to Crete"
The listing was extremely accurate. Clean & tidy and very well placed for restaurants, bars and shopping. A car is not necessary unless you wish to see what the island has to offer. I would recommend this apartment and Kalives. Very friendly people, lovely restaurants & bars/cafes. Our favourites were Provlita, and the two closest to the apartment. The bar/cafe we used all the time was on the main junction by the church. Wonderful holiday.

"Flott leilighet med sj?utsikt "
Hadde en flott ferie her i Kalives . Leiligheten hadde flott sj?utsikt fra en hyggelig balkong. Leilighet i 2 etasjer , soverom 2 stk. nede og 2 balkonger + 1 stort bad . 2etg. stue ,kj?kken og bad nr.2 . Balkong uten for kj?kkenet , og balkong med sj?utsikt fra stuen.Flott leilighet , rent og pent ! Kort vei til INKA supermarked -rett over veien ! Brukte 10 min inn til selve Kalives . Mange restauranter her . Vi vil sterkt anbefale ICARUS som har nydelig mat og veldig hyggelig personale :) Stranden ved leiligheten er lang og flott . Veldig koselig her !!

Very nice flat in an excellent location. The small balcony has a sea view- right on the beach front. Everything is well within easy walking distance. The resort has plenty of bars and restaurants but still maintains a quiet and relaxed atmosphere- no clubs or discos. The apartment is well equipped and comfortable. The beach is clean and plenty of sun beds to be had. The restaurants offer a wide range of authentic Greek food-we especially enjoyed the food and welcome in Kostas and Eleni's taverna. There is a bus service to both Lindos and Rhodes as well as local car hire and boat trips. It is especially hot in August but there's an excellent air-conditioning unit in the apartment.

About the Owner
John and Christine Warwick. He is British, she is French/Italian. We both fell in love with Crete, the island, the weather, the locals and their Cretan hospitality. We had visited many other European Countries but never felt as comfortable and at ease as in this part of Western Crete. We had been looking for somewhere to buy and to share with our friends and extended family so when the opportunity arose we had no hesitation. We want our visitors to share the enjoyment we have experienced in this part of Crete and will endeavour to give you as much information as possible to ensure you a wonderful holiday.

Why this location?
Regarding Crete, I fell in love with the island the first time I came to visit and this triggered our desire to buy a property there. I am myself Italian and French and Crete reminded me of both Cote d'Azur and Toscana before these places were spoiled to some extent by overbuilding and mass tourism. Western Crete is considered the most traditional part of Crete. We are at easy reach from the wonderful old Venetian town of Chania (La Canea) as well as Rethymno with its Turkish legacy. Our apartment is modern and well equipped and YES right on the beach with direct access to the beach through the 16 apartment complex. Taverna 2 minutes away, Supermarket opposite. Location, location, location !
What are the unique benefits of the property?
The apartment benefits from a sea view and an access from the communal area direct to the beach. This means no road to cross to get your feet into the sand and you will almost feel like you are in a private beach with golden and fine sand. You will enjoy having your meal on the balcony with view on the sea unless you prefer to indulge yourself in one of the many local taverns within walking distance. Indeed you don’t need a car to stay in our apartment since all the amenities are within easy reach and yet the property is still remote enough from the core of Kalyves to ensure a peaceful stay. The bus stop to Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion is near by. Chania is just at 20 minutes and should you want to have a night out in its old buoyant Venetian harbour, a taxi is easily organised.
