This exclusive luxury mansion was built in the 15th century with old stones taken from the river Rigo and it was part of the Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici land proprieties. The surroundings offer hot springs whose therapeutic properties were known since ancient times. The property sits in 18 acres of garden with oak trees, linden-trees, cypresses and a terrace full of many Mediterranean plants, where one can relax and have a pleasant stay outside.Guests staying at Podere Banditelle can truly immerse themselves in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, with its charming medieval villages, vineyards and olive groves.
The estate is situated at an altitude of 450 m above sea level. The climate is usually full of sunshine with a light breeze. Baby cots, high chairs, steriliser are available for babies if needed.
Stunningly preserved bronze statues found just 3 miles from the house. Italian archaeologists have unearthed 24 beautifully preserved bronze statues believed to date back to ancient Roman times.
The statues were discovered under the muddy ruins of an ancient bathhouse in San Casciano dei Bagni, Depicting Hygieia, Apollo and other Greco-Roman gods, the figures are said to be around 2,300 years old. Most of the statues - which were found submerged beneath the baths alongside around 6,000 bronze, silver and gold coins - date to between the 2nd Century BC and the 1st Century AD.

Wonderfull views

A beautiful location but requires some improvement
Let me start with the positive aspects - the location is indeed beautiful - the views of the mountains and the castle of Radicofani, the gardens with many fruit trees (fig, apple, pear), the delicious grapes on the vine, the enormous infinity pool which was large enough for us to swim short laps (although a little cold since due to the draught there was no hot spring water in the pool), and the house was more than big enough for a family of 5 with 3 young-adult children. The house was also cleaned once during our 9-night stay which was a nice bonus, and the pool was cleaned every day. The high-speed internet, which was very important for us, worked very well. Communication with the owner was very easy, via whatsapp, and he was always responsive to our questions. He gave us good directions and we took an easy hike down to the river (which was dry due to the draught), which I would recommend. The negative aspects, most of which are easy to solve, are as follows: the furniture, especially the living room sofas, urgently need to be replaced. They were extremely uncomfortable to sit on and you could feel the springs. Likewise, most of the mattresses, except for one, need to be replaced. Finally, it would have been nice to have more amenities available (e.g., the owner only supplied one roll of toilet paper per bathroom so we had to buy more but now the next renters will have a better supply, no replacement garbage bags were supplied, etc.). Other houses that we have rented in Europe were better supplied. The final point, that I think anyone who is renting should be aware of, is the road that you need to take to get to the house. From Celle Sul Rigo you must drive on a gravel road for 3 km, and the final km is a steep incline, with the final few meters before the house paved. We had rented a regular car, with which we were able to drive on the dirt road, but a jeep or 4-wheel drive would have made the ride much easier. Due to the steep dirt road, we were nervous about returning after dark, and always returned before sundown. Despite the above, all in all we had a very pleasant and memorable stay.

I am a former banker living in Rome and London with my family. I was educated in England where I did my undergraduate studies. I travel a lot in Asia where I have most of my businesses. I would be happy to welcome you to my new Farmhouse should you choose this location for your holidays.

Why they chose this property

During winter 2004 I was going fishing with a bunch of friends in Val d'Orcia, next to a river named Rigo, all of a sudden I saw a mass of ancient stones dating 1600, that was the rest of the so called Podere Banditelle. It took me six years to restore it as the original plan. it is a real paradise in a lovely and unique valley Val D'Orcia, with cosy restaurants nearby. It was a real dream for me that became reality, an old 15th century farmhouse restored as it was in the ancient time but with all modern comforts you may expect from a top luxury accommodation. The trails along the rigo river bed offers mediterranean flora and atmosphere.

What makes this property unique

The property is in the middle of charming Tuscany country side, South of Siena next to Montepulciano and facing Radicofani from windows and pool. The farmhouse is facing a river and no other houses or people are nearby. You are totally into wild nature and silence. If you want to relax that's the place! Further,3 miles from the house (5 minutes driving) you get to the best SPA in Italy with its natural hot spring water, highly recommended for your skin and body treatments. The volcanic origins of Monte Amiata just 10miles from the house, come to light to thermal springs in Bagno Vignone,San Casciano dei Bagni.Made famous by illustrious regular visitors such as Lorenzo il Magnifico Medici and Saint Catherina from Siena, the springs of San Casciano dei bagni have been enjoyed since Roman times.
