This apartment boasts a secluded roof terrace accessed by a spiral staircase with chairs table and parasol and sun loungers provided, an idyllic spot to watch the sunset over the river and the rooftops of this historic old town. The balcony overlooks the River Gilão where time passes by, watching the coming and going of the boats and the tide coming in and out. The balcony is enclosed but large sliding windows have a very outdoor feel. Cane chairs provide the ideal place for an evening drink or relaxing and reading a good book. Fly screens fitted.

A 50% deposit is payable to secure your reservation with the remainder payable 6 weeks before travel. A €£ fully refundable deposit in cash is payable on arrival which will be refunded at the end of the stay against breakage, damage or loss of keys or a clean we decide is much more than average. Payments are made direct into our English bank account so you do not incur any extra charges. We can offer a discount on bookings longer than 14 days

Riverside Apartment in the Centre of Historic Tavira, Eastern Algarve
About the area
All the beaches have the converted EEC blue flag Endless white sand, safe with small tides where you can walk, swim or just relax, boasting some of the warmest water temperatures in the Algarve, normally 25C in August. Tavira Island and Barril beach are accessed by a small train or ferry and there are a few small restaurants and cafes so the beach can be enjoyed as long as you desire. A 10 minute drive gives direct access to the beach. Even in peak season you will find a quiet stretch of beach.
The Algarve is famous for the number and quality of courses. There are four close by with Benamor being the nearest.
Benamor with striking mountain and ocean views. 3 short par 4´s and a par 3 the start is relatively uncomplicated but precision on many tee and approach shots is a must.
Quinta de Ria an impressive 18 hole course borders the Ria Formosa nature reserve. Affording spectacular ocean views, it is built on gently undulating terrain and includes five man-made lakes. Par 72
Quinta da Cima - provides an interesting challenge to golfers of all standards with well guarded greens, several close to hazards of both water and sand. Holes 4.5.6 and 13 are crossed by a stream. 18 holes Par 72
Castro Marim opened in 2001 a challenging course built on attractive rolling terrain with many tree species. Affording spectacular views to Spain and the Ocean. Many peoples favourite. Putting and chipping green and driving range. 18 hole Par 71, Par 73 for ladies. Newly opened Monte Rei.
Special Interest Holidays
The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is a World Heritage site and a paradise for twitchers with migrating birds, flamingos wadding in the salinas or for those who just appreciate nature. In August you can watch the Flor do Sal-Sea Salt being collected by hand in the way it has been done for hundreds of years. One of our guests counted over 100 species of birds in one day!

Tavira is one of the most unspoilt towns in the Algarve with the Rio Gilao running through its centre and spanned by a 7 arch Roman bridge. This unspoilt town retains it historic medieval past with the castle standing watch over some 30 churches. The winding cobbled streets are full of small shops and riverside cafes where the pace of life is slow. A daily market offers fresh fish from the local fishermen caught that morning, local fruit and vegetable at affordable prices. There is a varied choice of good restaurants at very reasonable prices. During the season the outdoor 'amphitheatre' provides evening music and entertainment. Concerts and classical recitals are held in some of the large churches, which is a wonderful natural setting. During August the Igreja da Calma hosts an outdoor cinema in its precincts. The Algarve boasts long white sandy beaches with the coveted Blue Flag. The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, which is a World Heritage site, has many rare special of birds enjoying the benefits of a larger system of tidal lagoons which is a bird twitchers paradise. Many species of birds migrate here, or stop on the way. Flamingos paddle in the salinas (salt marshes) and storks make unruly nests on any high vantage point. The old Convento da Graca has been tenderley renovated into a stunning Pousada, to dine in the cloisters is a realy must We now have a shopping mall outside the town with over 100 shops, a food hall Portuguese style and a 4 theatre cinema for those inclement days which are far and few between. We also have a small bowling alley in the town.

About the Owner
We are George and Barbara and have been married for over 40 years! We have 25 years+ previous experience of renting properties in Sussex and Belgium. We have had a villa in Tavira for 7 years and when we retired spent time between the 3 countries. Needless to say we could not resist looking for good quality properties for rental and decided to share the lovely city of Tavira with others. We have always had the opinion that if we would want to stay in a place so would other people and we have always used that criteria. We realise that holidays are very important to people as they spend a long time choosing and looking forward to them and saving for them For us it is also important that we treat people as we like to be treated.

Why this location?
We bought this building purely because it is right alongside the Rio Gilão. The ground floor is let as an estate agent. It has 2 apartments the front one having beautiful views, from the large balcony, over the river with the comings and goings of the fishermen and also a secluded roff terrace. The studio is very large and bright and also has a balcony. We fell in love with Tavira when we first saw it and that is why we spend so much time here. It still has a slow pace and is relatively unspoilt. The countryside behind is stunning and well worth a visit just driving and exploring the small white villages and stopping at a small cafe for a drink with the locals. It is stunning in Spring with the hills painted white and yellow from the cistus and mimosa.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
It is right in the heart of Tavira but situated away from the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. The whole of the town is within easy walking distance. There are only a very few rental properties in Tavira that can boast this view.
