Village House in Bubion, High Alpujarras, Andalucia - Tranquil Location in a Moorish Spanish Village

Situated in the heart of the Alpujarra mountains in Southern Spain, Bubion, the middle of three white Moorish villages at 1200 metres, enjoys some of the cleanest air in Europe with cooling breezes in the height of summer and an Alpine feel in winter. Vista de Aguilas (view of Eagles) is situated in a quiet street to the rear of the village and enjoys magnificent views into the Poqueira Gorge and down to the Mediterranean. On a clear day, the coastline of Africa and the Riff mountains can be seen. Reputed to be one of the oldest houses in Bubion, it benefits from a wood-burning stove, exposed original chestnut beams with slate ceilings and handmade terracotta floor tiles. The spacious accommodation includes a Moorish tiled inner courtyard and 2 terraces. It is stylishly decorated with many unique and original features. Bubion is the ideal base of walking holidays, horse riding, cycling or simply unwinding in the amazing countryside.

Bubion House

Lovely house in beautiful position overlooking the Poquiera Valley. Local Tabac supplies everyday day needs and if village supermarket closed there is another one (Coviran) in next village up (Capileira).

Very well appointed with lots of china, pots and pans, glassware ad general cooking equipment. Had a bit of a problem with the hob which but managed to fix it as there is wifi available and Goggle came up trumps!

Suggest maybe not the idea winter let as the log fire seems to fuel the central heating system and it is hard to keep it going though there were plenty of logs there. Great showers and a jacuzi bath with plenty of hot water.

Our hire car, though new, was inadequate and so it was not possible to tale it down to the let which meant parking in the village car park and carrying stuff up and down a very steep hill. Not advisable for the unfit! We are used to the area but still found this a bit of a problem. I think some people would not like the drive down to the property.

Safety gate upstairs if you have children which is great and lovely views from the upstairs sitting room and from the summerhouse which is outside the house and across the 'road'. All beautifully maintained.

Thank you to the owners for our stay which was just what we needed - peace and quiet and no phones ringing or emails by the dozen.

Village is ideally placed for touring being the centre of three hill villages and giving easy access to the road across to Trevelez and down to Orgiva (great Thursday market still there).

I would certainly recommend the house but as I say maybe go in the warmer months perhaps between March and October. The weather is hardly the owners fault and the accommodation is well up to spec. Enjoy it like we did if you go.

Activity and Interests


The Costa Tropical is an hour's drive with Motril, Salobrena, Almunecar and La Herradura beaches.


Granada Airport is approx. 1.5 hours drive from Bubion and Malaga approx. 2.5 hours drive. Regular flights arrive to Granada from the UK by Ryanair and Monarch.

Although not essential, car hire is recommended when visiting the area.


Casa del Aguilas is situated in the village of Bubion. 2km up the road is the village of Capileira and 2km down the road is the village of Pampaneira. Orgiva is half an hour's drive from Bubion. Granada is 1 hours drive.
