Accessibility
People with mobility difficulties: to protect the lodge from the snow, it is built off the ground and a few steps lead up to both entrances. Once inside the property, the entire ground floor (kitchen, living area, wc, bathroom and two bedrooms) would be easily accessible to people with mobility issues including wheelchair users, however I wouldn't like to say the lodge is entirely wheelchair accessible due to the entrances to the property.
Outside
The wooden decked area stretches the width of the house and private garden extends three sides of the property. The garden leads down to the low-level river, ideal for children to play (young children with supervision), for hardy bathers and small dinghies. Generally the garden and house are ideal for families. The garden area has been left as natural as possible, there is a small, low-level, feature bridge in the garden which children love and it's thus full of potential places to hide and build dens! The decking area is a sun trap from early morning until mid afternoon when the sun moves to the 'stone circle' area, ideal for catching the last rays and watching the sun set.
Skiing
Alpine and x- country ski resorts are available in both directions from the lodge. Jasna is the biggest resort (20-40 minutes by car). Tuition is much cheaper here than in other European resorts and there’s little wait for lifts. Slovensky Raj (30-40 minutes) has alpine and x-country routes. Slightly further away are the smaller but popular, well-equipped and picturesque resorts of Stary Smokovec and Tatranska Lomnica. Alpine skiing is popular at Strbske Pleso (20-40 minutes) along with a number of cross country routes. X-country tuition is good here and only a little tuition is needed to get started. There's also a snow park with snow mobile rides available and a host of bars and restaurants. Just over a mile from the lodge is a small collection of alpine runs of varying difficulty, accessible through drag lifts -great if you only have a couple of hours to spare. X- country routes for the experienced are 2 minutes away.

Guest comments
"Just wanted to say thank you for an amazing time at your place. We all had an absolutely cracking time and loved Slovakia as a whole but especially the tatras. None of us could believe how big also how well kitted out your place was. It was so nice to have nice fresh bedding/towels waiting for us and nice kitchen equipment to cook with etc. It's the little touches that really made a difference :)" Paul Maddox March 2011.
"An outstanding house and beautiful location for a perfect Christmas! Thank you!" Nick King, January 2011.
"The house is simply stunning, spacious and well-kitted out. But it's the location which really sets it apart. The garden leads right down to the river which is like having your own private paddling pool in the summer and the braver of us used it as a plunge pool in the winter before toasting ourselves in front of the wood burning stove. I've been twice and I'd definitely go again." Austen Pickles, June 2010.
Owner profile
About the owner
I live in Yorkshire, England, with my husband and our two almost teenage daughters who, despite the stereotypes, are still great fun. We're quite an active family so Tatras Lodge is perfect on two levels. It's so peaceful, it's the closest we ever get to doing nothing (for nothing, I mean: long lunches on the decking, playing games, paddling in the river, reading several books and drinking wine) and yet this is an activity haven. There's every conceivable winter and summer mountain activity with spas and water parks built on thermal springs in every direction. Winters are snowy, the ski season long and summers hot like they should be (only broken by hugely impressive storms) so the weather never stops us doing anything we planned.
Year purchased: 2010
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We fell in love with Slovakia after stumbling upon it driving over the mountains from Poland. The climate is perfect for winter and summer activities, its history is fascinating, the people are lovely and there's so much to do which is generally at a fraction of British prices.
Tatras Lodge is in Pribylina at the base of the sought after Tatras Mountains. Being a popular ski and summer alpine walking area means its infrastructure and the amenities are great. And yet, as one of an exclusive development of wooden lodges where the gentle Bela and Vah rivers connect, you could be anywhere and certainly can't hear a single car or voice inside or outside of the lodge. For us, it's the perfect combination of peace and convenience - not just for us but for our 12 and 11 year old daughters
Unique benefits of the property
We were involved in the planning and building of Tatras Lodge and opted for large, spacious rooms and three bathrooms (plus an extra cloakroom) to make for a truly luxurious stay for up to 10 people. Being one of only a few of the lodges to lead down to the river edge, and standing on a double sized plot, the lodge occupies a top, exceptionally private spot. Our local contact, and font of local information, oversees every stay and is always on hand to answer all your needs. We are partners in a Mountain Activity Breaks company which offers a bespoke range of extra services provided by English speaking, friendly staff - equipment rental, ski and other tuition, taxi service (including airport and resort transfers or a taxi home at night) even in-house catering.
