Accessibility
The drive to the house and garage are fairly steep. Unfortunately, you probably wouldn't be able to push a person in a wheelchair up. The house itself is light, airy and spacious and so are its two staircases secured by handrails.
Outside
Cycling and hiking starts at your doorstep and you will find endless pleasure in pedaling or walking on dedicated car-free tracks along the picturesque meanders of the river Ruwer and Moselle. Chill out with a glass of Riesling wine and a home made meal in traditional 'Strausswirtschaften' (wine estates serving their own produce in a family atmosphere). A beautiful open air swimming pool is located nearby (4 miles) and is suitable for all ages. You can spend a whole day for very little money. Don't miss out visiting Germany's oldest city Trier (8 miles away). Trier is a 2000 year old Roman city - home to six Roman emperors and has many ruins including the impressive Porta Nigra (the black Gate), a four-story structure that was once part of the city's walls. There's a very good bus connection from the village centre every 20 minutes. Diversity probably describes this fascinating area best. Whatever you fancy doing you will find it can be done.
Special interest holidays
We offer a wine tasting at the property and are pleased to contact wine growers you might want to visit for you. Unique is the late summer season which we call 'Altweibersommer' literally translates to 'old women's summer', probably because it is less hot, but still beautiful. Why not participate in picking grapes this harvest and watch the grapes being freshly pressed into delicous juice at the winery?
Trier Christmas Market has been voted one of Germany's most beautiful Christmas markets. Equally great to do your shopping with many unusual things on offer. There's a very good bus connection from the Village (every 20 minutes until late) or a car journey of 15 minutes.
Luxembourg is round the corner and definitely worth a visit. You can go by train (30 mins journey) and discover the city by bike with a knowledgeable guide on your side.
Travel
Nearest airports: Frankfurt Hahn (40 miles) and Luxembourg (30 miles).
From port of Calais: 290 miles (driving time 4 hours and 30 minutes on quiet motorways).
Although there's a very good bus connection a car would be beneficial to see all the beautiful surrounds.
Distances
The City of Trier, Germany's oldest city is about 8 miles away and represents pure culture, but it wouldn't be fair to limit it to this. With the Romans didn't only come majestic buildings but also the art of wine cultivation. Thanks to the Romans and the extraordinary geographical situation, it is here on the Moselle and neighbouring streams that winegrowers produce top international wines. The food is a medley of Franco-German cuisine and is truly enjoyable!
Further details
The wine village Waldrach benefits from a very good infrastructure. A medium sized supermarket sells fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh bakery products and nice meat along with almost everything else. There's a choice of two other bakeries, one of which will be opened even on Sunday mornings to provide you with freshly baked rolls and croissants. Pick up a bottle of fresh grape juice or wine from one of the many vintners on your walk or cycle back to the house through the vineyards. A few restaurants, a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy and bus stop for a short ride to Trier are equally located in the village valley.
