Known as the ‘Land of the Prince Bishops’, the City of Durham is both ancient and beautiful. Cottages in Durham offer all the charm of the area and make a great base for exploring this historic city. Visitors to the city can explore the incredible cathedral here with its face ‘Lions Head’ door knocker, then walk across the green pat ancient buildings occupied by the University and then explore the castle. So much history is captured in such a small space. The river is beautiful and a trip along either by motor launch or punt is highly recommended, just watch out for the university rowing teams which are always on the water. For breaks in the city centre apartments in Durham are close to some excellent bars and restaurants.
Barnard Castle - Durham
Barnard Castle in the north east of the UK is a town steeped in history. The ruins of a stone castle, which dates back to 1125 are what give the town its name.
