This spacious open-plan apartment is located in a 1920s building. Recently renovated, it has all mod cons, including internet and use of a Czech mobile phone. There are four inter-joining rooms. The sitting room opens to a private, large (40sq.m) sunny garden in the back courtyard facing southwards. The master bedroom has parquet floors and a king size bed. The kitchen adjoins the dining room and sitting room, giving the flat a lovely open feeling while also cosy and elegant with sofas, rugs, parquet floors and tiles. The street is quietly residential. Reigrovy Sady Park is 200 metres away, as are fine clay tennis courts. Shops and transport are around the corner on Seifertova. Trams 5 and 9 run to the centre and across the river to the Castle side. Charles university Economics faculty is 100 metres away. The Obecni Dum is a mere 10 minute walk. Old town square and Wenceslas Sq are approximately 10 to 15 minute walk, as are many of the music venues (both classical and popular).

Accessibility
There is a lift, so the apartment is totally accessible for older people and mothers (fathers too) with prams.

Outside
One thing that makes this apartment fairly unsual - if not unique - in central Prague, is the extensive garden area which is accessed through a door from the sitting room. It faces southwards and is located in the rear courtyard, so it is sunny and quiet. It is totally private and seperated from the rest of the courtyard by a thick hedge. It has recently been planted, and it is an ideal place for barbecuing, reading and sunbathing.

Coast/Beach
Shakespeare refers to The Coast of Bohemia in A Winter's Tale. The nearest 'beach' is found at Slapy reservoir, a 45 min drive (buses go there too) outside Prague. It is definitely worth a day's excursion on a summer's day. Stunning, with a choice of beaches - one with a distinctly Caribbean flavour perhaps, the other nearer the yacht club and quieter. The swimming is fabulous and the scenery is beautiful.

Golf
There is golf in the Czech Rep, somewhere not far away...

Skiing
Believe it or not, a good day's skiing can be enjoyed just one and a quarter hours away by car, near Liberec (a beautiful town worth a visit). Advanced skiers are fairly limited for choice - short black & red slopes - but intermediate and certainly beginners and children are very well served by the ski resorts in this area and in the more popular Krkonose mountains, about 2 hours drive. Cross country skiers are spoilt for choice, tracks and scenery.

Special interest holidays
We supply the Essential 100 Words of Czech Guide. Though many Czechs speak English and menus are in English, being able to speak a few words will be hugely appreciated by the native Czechs (who are fully aware how difficult their language is!). Tuition can be arranged. We also supply our 'Guide to Local Prague' - which will take you a little bit off the typical tourist trail, show you parts of Prague you may never know existed (take a personal guide for a half day tour of Communist Prague! See a pyramid of books), tell you the best taxis to take, the best local bars and cafes and restaurants to go to, where to find the best live music, which castles to visit, or where to find 2 Bruegals, a Velazquez, and where to eat the best svickova. For the very serious Art historian or purely curious visitor, we can organise a qualified guide.

Travel
Prague airport is approximately 30 minutes away by taxi. The main railway station is about 10 minutes walk. This links Prague to Vienna, Brno and Berlin.

Distances
For more information on day trips, you should contact me, or read our 'Tips for Prague'. There are many wonderful day excursions to castles and historic towns, as well as city walks.
Carlstejn Castle 30 mins. Nelahozeves Castle 30 mins. Kalovy Vary 1½ hours. Many other castles within 1 hour. Cesky Krumlov 2½ hours. Terezin 40 mins.

Further details
There are numerous little grocery shops (many run by the Vietnamese, open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day). The area is inundated with shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and banks (the nearest ATM is around the corner going up the hill of Seifertova), some of which we recommend in our 'Guide to Local Prague'. The beautiful Riegrovy Sady park is 5 mins walk. This has an athletics track for use by anyone, a swimming pool (check available times for public use. There is a nude swim on Saturday mornings!), an enormous outdoor beer garden, a fantastic children's playground, and some of the best views over the centre of Prague that you will find anywhere. There is even 'sunbathers slope, which in summer, becomes pretty much like a beach - bikinis, frisbies and surf shorts are de rigeur.

Guest comments
Your apartment had everything we needed to feel comfortable and relaxed and provided a welcome respite after our explorations of the beautiful city of Prague and the surrounding towns. Thanks too Piers for our good communications, they were prompt and fun!

Piers - We had a great time in Praha. The city is absolutely beautiful. We look forward to coming back when the weather is a little warmer. The apartment was fantastic -- great location, very clean and spacious. We would highly recommend it to visitors and hope the next time we come it is available. The treats in the fridge were awesome--and a pleasant surprise after a long drive.

Hi Piers, We had a great time in Prague and the flat was very comfortable. Rolf

Dear Piers, Thanks very much for the 'extras'. Much appreciated. Little touches like that really made our stay so wonderful. Your flat is in a great location.

House swap
Yes we would consider a house/flat swap.
